  1. coraline out of control

I made my own scraper, just got a short length of electrical conduit about 20mm size (3/4 inch) and do a shallow cut (about 8/10mm), at about 45 degees with a hack saw, at one end. Then i simply inserted one of those single sided razor blades (i hope you get them there). These blades are much...
  2. OK Folks, electrical problem with GFCI

I think you better get a grounding probe in your tank, before you get a real serious FULL voltage shock. 8O 8O 8O
  3. Sfiligoi Chillers

Does anyone use a Sfiligoi Chiller (flite range) and are you completely happy with its performance. 8)
  4. trying to raise calcium levels

The Salifert kit is probably the best available here, for the money.
  5. Pump recommendation please

You may be better of checking out some type of house hold pressure pump or even a pool pump.

  7. sick of turf algae...

The Urchins I have and seem to be one of the best on most types of algea is Tripneustes Gratilla www.massonline.org/frames/livestock/inverts/urchins.html I know they come from our local waters the Barrier Reef but else where i don't know. I have little problems with my urchins moving the...
  8. sick of turf algae...

I have read that turkey blasting or power heading all that debris, dust etc of your LR will go a long way to reducing the "fertilizers" that hair algea feeds on, I hope that's what you have. Then use a cannister or similar to filter it out. -Certainly keep a very low (fish) bio load. -Always use...
  9. need some fish catching tricks please

I had some success with the plastic coke bottle thing. Cut a 1.25lt.Coke bottle right through a bit below the neck or more shoulders. Invert this section into the remaining bottom part (take the lid off & enlarge a bit maybe).Bait it and tie on a length of string. It makes a sort of yabbie...
  10. RO/DI on Low Pressure

Thanks for that guys. I have read that a few reefers using the TWP have reported unacceptable readings of phosphate from them. I must say if the cartridge is replaced before its spent, i have always had Phosphate readings of zero. Any comments on TWP please?
  11. someone please make sense of it for me!

I recently removed my balls (bio that is) but i still have no DSB, does anyone see a problem with that. I will be putting in a DSB on day when i decide to re arrange the aquarium furiture (LR). Its just a job i don't look forward to. Also can i use beach sand for a DSB if so should i collect...
  12. Here's a stumper for you...

What brand of test kits are you using. I found Salifert excellent and far more accurate than many others. I would be concerned of any nitrite reading in a mature tank, should always be zero. PS I'd love a tank with no algea, SWAP. -- DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY --
  13. RO/DI on Low Pressure

I currently use a TWP (Tap Water Purifier) for my make up water. I would like to go to a RO/DI system but as i am on tank water only, i have a house hold pressure pump. Is there anyone using a RO/DI on a house hold pressure pump say of 30/35 PSI Max. If so what brand. Is their any problems with...
  14. Can I keep clams?

I've had my Blue Maxima under the middle one of 3 / 150 watt 10000k MH (currently on 6 hours a day only) for nearly 18 months now, in my 6x2x2. And hes looking good and has grown also. He also sits on my substrate (bottom) of tank, no DSB either. I think you can all get a bit carried away with...
  15. HELP!!! my tank is crashing

Rios have a bad name here in OZ for breaking down or blowing up and have even released toxins (there epoxy) into the water killing much livestock. I'd use Hagens, Laguna, Aquaclear, LifeTech anything but a rio. Its a good idea to have a probe in your tank just to protect YOU from any faults in...
