  1. Black max and Pyle wrasse

Here's one of my Cirrhilabrus pylei and he(?) only cost me $40! -Steve BTW, if you can't tell I'm still trying to figure out how to use my camera.
  2. Macro Help Please

Thanks, I'll try these suggestions and report back. Hopefully one of these days I'll get something nice enough to enter into one of the contests. Thanks again, Steve
  3. Macro Help Please

I used to do a lot of Macro photography with my old Nikon SLR and Ring Flash. I bought Canon G3 a number of months ago since I needed a digital camera and wanted to wait to see what next year will bring with Digital SLR technology (a Nikon Foveon???). Anyway, I've been trying to do some macro...
  4. How high is your aquarium off the ground?

Len, I built the stand for my 120 to be 44" tall. This is the perfect viewing height for me as I am around 6' 2" or so and the tank is in my entryway. Wonderful for viewing, but a pain when it comes to working in the tank itself. I need a step ladder to get to below say halfway in the front...
  5. Will black caps and royal grammas get along?

Mitch, I have a single Royal and a single Black Cap in my 120. The Royal is dominant, but not overly agressive. Heck the Royal even displays at my Cirrhilabrus lineatus that dwarf him. He'll open his jaws up and the lineatus will almost just brush up against his mouth as if darring him to do...
  6. Will black caps and royal grammas get along?

Ha! I was there in November. That is the largest Black Cap I have EVER seen! -Steve
  7. Unique/Rare Specimen Photo Thread

Len, Where did you get the Pyleis from? If you don't mind, would you PM me the price? Do they look anything like the male Marine Center has? -Steve
  8. SPS: Anyone keeping . . .?

Thanks Len, How much flow do you think you have running over this coral? Is it uni-directional, multi-directional, or chaotic? Thanks, Steve
  9. SPS: Anyone keeping . . .?

Hi all, Is anyone keeping Acropora suharsonoi or other SPS that have very long axial corallites? Frag availability? Can you give me any information on their captive requirements? Thanks, Steve
  10. Veneer and the DIY Stand/Canopy?

Hi all, A while ago (longer than I would like to admit) I purchased some very nice Pommele Bubinga veneer to use on a project for my AV system. Anyway, I recently attended a veneering workshop that stoked my ambitions and I was thinking of using the afore mentioned veneer on a stand and canopy...
  11. ER 8-3, too big...

I'd have to say yes. For a 58 I'd go with something like a CS 6-2 or so. No need for anything like the ES 8-3. I have the CS 8-3 on my 120 that also has another 200g in sump/refugium on it. Only go with the ES 8-3 if you think you will be upgarding the size of your tank soon. -Steve
  12. Live rock internal rotting

How would this explain the odor?
  13. Live rock internal rotting

Sounds like dead sponges to me. When alive they can hold bits of rock in place and be almost indistinguishable from the rest of the rock. When decaying they start to smell very bad and slowls start the flake off the rock. This could easily look like holes growing in the rock. -Steve
  14. Wow, check out the gobies on this page.

Some are very hard to find and expensive . . . Others are just impossible to find. I did a number of searches looking for info on Discordipinna and Flabelligobius species and found absolutely nothing. I currently have: 2 Amblyeleotris wheeleri Amblyeleotris randalli Stonogobiops yasha I had...
  15. Best external skimmer

Mike, You are better off going with a pressure rated pump if possible. I like, and use, Iwakis. They are an external use only pump though. Don't think I have ever seen an internal pump/powerhead that was pressure rated. The other nice thing about Iwaki pumps is that there is almost no heat...
