  1. Dinoflagellates or possibly chyrsophytes?

Really? I've been using it for a week and a half per the recommended dosage (top off water with the Kalk mixed in per the carton) and there has only been a pH increase of 0.1. That's why I bought a buffer today. The article I linked, along with a few other sources, are what recommended a higher...
  2. Dinoflagellates or possibly chyrsophytes?

Thank you. Yes, I've been told the pH needs to rise relatively quickly (by my coral/fish provider) but that Kalk can take up to a month to raise the pH by 0.5. So Richard said to just use a buffer to get it to 8.4-8.5 (per buffer instructions, not to cause pH shock) and continue to drip Kalk...
  3. Dinoflagellates or possibly chyrsophytes?

Our tank: 100 gallon live rock/live sand reef tank. 7 fish. 3 shrimp. 2 starfish. 30ish snails. 25ish hermit crabs. A multitude of stomatella. 15ish corals. Equipment: 2 wavemaker-controlled powerheads Strong return pump (at work, exact specs at home) Protein skimmer 40 gallon sump with 3...
  4. Cycling Question

It's aquarium sand. Just not live. Heh. Thank you. Right now, the tank sits at around 77-78. We also have metal halide lights... so I suppose that's probably helping with the algae!
  5. Cycling Question

I've tried to find the answer, and haven't found anything specific to my case. So sorry if this seems repetitive. Tank Specs: 100 Gallon w/ 40 gallon Sump Protein Skimmer Return Pump Refugium 100 lbs live rock 20 lbs live sand 80 lbs regular sand We've had the tank cycling for about 3 weeks...
  6. Length of time for running lights?

Just got my lights on my tank and I have a quick question. How long do you run your MH's , Actinic's , and moon lights throughout the day? Thanks in advance for the help!
  7. Optimal Temperature

I've been trying to find more information on it, it seems that high 70s isn't bad and it actually depends on what the corals original tank temperature was where it was raised how well it will do (or so I've read) I guess we're going to have to buy a chiller, since our tank is sitting at 80...
  8. Optimal Temperature

Well that's the high range for some fish and corals... this is one of the few articles I read in regards to the temps Tank Temperatures And does anyone own Metal Halide lights? How much did they increase your tank temperature? [/url]
  9. Optimal Temperature

I have read a lot of different things on the optimal temperature for our tank. The question arose, because our tank temperature was up to 82 this morning when we woke up (empty at the moment) and that's without our Metal Halide lights! Our tank setup: (we're ordering liverock/sand today) Reef...

  12. Question about skimmers

well thanks for the reply snowman, I just don't want to buy the more expensive skimmer if i don't have to when i can buy a good sufficient skimmer and i can use that extra money towards nice lighting setup again, appreciate the reply.
  13. Question about skimmers

I have 100G display tank with a 40G sump tank and i have been looking around for a good skimmer. I've read here and other places that, Euroreef, AquaC and ASM skimmers are really reliable skimmers, but i have a question. The ASM skimmers are a few hundred $$ cheaper than the Euro's or...
