If you want to spend some money have you looked at air exchangers/HEAT RECOVERY VENTILATOR's? It acts like a dehumidifier with tons of other very positive benifits. I have one it's great.

I have a tomato clown that is at least 9 yrs. old and some damn damsel that is 6 years old. I hate that damsel and so does every fish in my tank.
How do we really know how old any of our fish are? The question should be how long have they been in our tanks other then that age is a guess is it...
I recently bought a Deltec skimmer, very nice product.
It and as manyskimmers have a drain on the skimmer cup that can drain into a bucket sink or what ever. I could leave it a while with out touching the cup but I do clean it every few days for the best skimming. If you want they offer a self...
IMO you don't want to agitate the scum that'll just put it back into the water. I'd direct it so it goes over the over flow or how ever your skimmer is hooked up. Skim that scum.
Dave
That scum or slick is what you want to skim. How is it you have a overflow and a hang on skimmer? Is the hang on skimmer on your sump? Is your over flow a corner overflow?
Dave
All depends, my hood is always vented (open top canopy) and I don't run any fans. My sump is in the basement
I do run a chiller however. My water volume is about 450g. If you're thinking running a big tank, sump two floors I'd just get a chiller, end the debate it rules.
Dave
That's it, pretty quiet it's your chance to slam or hype up some products. Nobody using any of my product choices?
Dave
-LA-Lawman I'll look in to that reactor a bit more, thanks.
Looking to upgrade, I've been running an AquaMedic 1000 reactor flawlessly for years but my water volume and CA consumption has maxed out its output. My water volume is about 500 gal. including display, frag tank and sump.
So my short list of pics would be:
