Maximum Reefs Has Really Fell Off

What happened? After Ivan and Anthony have left the store has really fell off their game. seems like none of the employees have a clue??

I don't think it's the employees. I was there a few weeks ago and wanted two fish, and nobody knew how much they were. I was told that the owner knows all the prices. I waited 30 mins for him to call back to the store, and he didn't. If anyone is to blame for the downward spiral blame the owner not the employees.

Wow this store was a gem when it started , all I would here is some great stuff and I even saw alot of cool corals that people got from them and now I can't believe what I read.

i went and spoke with the owner a few weeks ago in regards to a sump. he told me he had what i was looking for and he'll bring it in-in a week or so. so after a week and a half i stop by to check. he says sorry tomorrow so i come back tomorrow-nope thursday. i wasn't in any rush so i told him that and said take your time i'll check back. i was a regular there so i didn't mind too much. so some time goes by and i haven't gone to check. then i stop by one day and he tells me he had it but i took too long so he sold it!

Yeah I go there every 2 weeks (pay day lol) and I love stopping in. Usually I always see people from MR that I sit and talk to for while and to me it's more than just a fish store now.

Ralph is a good guy, I really think he's doing his best and given his language barrier he's doing a great job so I just think some people should just cut them some slack.

I wouldn't deny that it has been different without Ivan but unfortunately some times employees need to go for one reason or another. Ralph hasn't found someone he can trust like he used to with Ivan nor someone that can help him communicate better like Ivan used to do.

All in all, it's still a great store and although I had my share of negative comments soon after Ivan left, it is and has always been one of the best stores in my area.

Rather than posting some much negativity that may result in a loss of customers and business, it is best if we show support to small 'mom and pop' shops like Max Reef because I'm sure we'll all miss them once their gone.

Its my favorite store in the whole NYC area

Its true that the store is def not the same without Ivan and i think itll take the owner a little while to find somebody as reliable, honest and cordial as him

Its true that they have a labelling issue and the only one that knows its prices is the owner

But we have to have in mind the the onwer is the one that pretty much does all the paper work in that store and hes a very busy guy ...and barely is IN the store

Back then he had ivan but now hes alone
His new employees which are two DONT know what their doing specially one of them that thinks he knows everything and just guesses the danm prices

Im a old costumer and Im pretty cool with the wife and everytime i have a pricing difficulty and the owner is not there i go to her and shes always happy to take a picture of it and send it to her husband then he'll text her the price

Overall i think the owner is doing the best he can
And its just a matter of fixing a couple of things so the store can go back to being very neat and outstanding

every one know im a max reed supporter to the fullest but I went the other day and the new employees suck they have no clue what they are doing but there is one dude who s learning and he was very helpful but I agree after ivan left they fell off a lil bit and everyone can agree on that

I have only been to max once so I can't say if it's changed or falling off. I could be wrong but for the most part the members here have a pretty solid idea about pricing for certain livestock and can ballpark pretty closely what something should sell for. I can understand its a annoying and certainly a pia at times, especially when they are busy but they have a nice selection are priced very reasonably in my opinion so this makes it worth the hassle

Max Reef is still one of best LFS in Westchester. All Ralph did was expand and it got him In trouble. Its never his price of fish or coral. It's always about his help and service. Yes, was unable to replace Ivan because he knew everything. Of late MR gets just as much bad reviews as good ones. I don't understand. I guess it might be better if people pay more so they get better service. Maybe they won't complain about service anymore. We are talking about fish store or we talking about eating at fancy restaurant.

costumer service is falling off allot, MAX Reef is still the best store to go to ill cross the whitestone bridge everyday if i had to. They really need to get better staff, there's only 1 guy there besides Ralph that is very helpful, you'll have a guy there helping you and then out of no where he will be helping someone else and not come back to you, they don't no half the prices most of the time and make the price higher then they are. Thats why i only ask Ralph. Hes a good guy and is trying hard. A++ store just needs better staff members that no what there doing. They also need some marketing and keep us UPDATED with the stores STOCK.

I have bought fish from this store a few times and I am very happy with the service I received. Honestly when you compare them to 95% of the other fish stores, their prices beat all others. Lately I do not know if it is me but many of the Long Island fish stores have been selling sick fish and contaminated corals. Kind of make you afraid but I never had any problems with any fish, inverts or corals I have bought at Maximum Reefs.

Sometimes you have to do your own research because a lot of employees at your lfs talk the talk. But it's all fun and games when you listen and your tank gets wiped out! Do your own research, plenty of good information available.

If they would just list the price on the tank of the price of the fish it would be a lot better off for everyone its that simple ,anyway there on my don't return till they get it right list, I was very disappointed with my last visit and to think me and my boys would take the trip from long island
every Fri spending hundreds of dollars a piece only to get the runaround and selective service .so AV is our new home
