can anyone explain this to me? I go to Central and they tell me the corals that I'm interested in can only be sold on the new web site. OK a bit frustrating since I drove all the way to central. But as long as i can get a shot at the corals I was still interested... I'm thinking I'll check out the web site. The site has none of the corals up that i was told cant be purchased at the store. So I'm left wondering do I go back to the store?

Its because their web designer while having good intentions doesn't know what they are doing. The reason that the corals were not offered to you is for inventory reasons. In order to have them for sale on the website they cannot also be available in the store. My guess is that they still need to be photographed and uploaded to the site. At that point you should be able to purchase them and I would assume pick up in the store. It is difficult making the transition from retail to ecommerce I am sure if you give them some time it will be ok. The site is really nice looking I hope they can pull it off and be as successful online as they have been in the store. I am looking forward to the new hotreef.

perhaps designating a tank just for online sales is the way to handle inventory (keeping it separate). that tank should also be in the back where no one sees it or perhaps upon request with the understanding that no purchase in store allowed. However, "online web site corals" were spread throughout the store in several tanks. When you are at a store and you want something a price in one hand and a bag in the other is the ONLY clear choice. Just my .02

I'm confused. You can't buy it in the store because you have to order it online, but drive to the store to pick it up anyway? This is the only store I buy from. I live almost an hour away but make the trip for the (used to be) great prices. The other day I was there and wanted a naso tang. They told me $55, when I bought the exact same fish there for $40 before and they had quite a few. So I left it. Now I see it on their site for $35??!! Just wrong, unfair and a waste of my money for gas and tolls.

First they got to have one name. Either Hot Reefs or Tropical Aquarium. To confusing with also Central Aquarium. This could work out but driving there and seeing something you like and not getting or paying more sounds like they rather have you buy online and pick up. To confusing at first hope they work it out in time.

I agree...however the prices on their web site are also insane. Take Absolutely fish, when you go into the store there is always about 7-10 guys helping. Yes, their prices are also high but you are in and out of the store in a hurry and they have a good selection of fish corals and food, dry goods. If you increase prices what are your customers getting for that? More selection or just bigger inventory? If you sell 25 heads of frogspawn it still is just 1 selection but bigger inventory. As a customer I want to know what I'm getting for the increased price and that I can walk out with a coral for my time and gas.

Well I was going to go there today but not even gonna waste my time
+1
When I go into a store I want to leave with what I want... not be told you have to buy it on line.
If your going to let the public into the building they should be able to leave with what they want to buy. They should also keep in mind there are 1,000's of online resources to buy from

Good point a out abso, but having been in store a lot bc it's close to my home and I conveniently pass on way home from work I have found they may have a lot of employees, but not all of them know what they are doing and some are just rude

To clarify things.

You are aloud to buy things in store. If an employee tells you its for online, its for a reason. If something is put online and they sell it in store and we have it sold already how does that work?

The Site is up, but UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Over the passed 4 weeks we have cut off the online tanks for it to be it's own system, installed a gorgeous 400w LumenBright Halide for SPS and have stated designing the website.

Was it published to the public, Yes.
Is it able to be bought from yet, No.

It was published to the public against the designers wishes. Please bare with us and we will have it up and running smoothly in time.

Things like this do not happen over night. This wasn't just an Online website being made, it's a whole system setup. Now inventory will be built and the website will be stocked.

As for in store pick up, if there are any questions regarding a piece that is Posted for online please ask a person on the floor for help. They can make a call too see if its still online or Sold.

From a online retailer perspective it makes perfect sense, from a buyer perspective it makes no sense. From a business owner perspective I'd be mad as hell. I worked retail both online and in store for many years...

If someone was in my shop and was told to go buy it online I would be raising hell, all you have to do is take the customer to the counter ask them what they'd like to buy, have the cashier buy it for them online you can keep a company credit card for those types of transactions and just add the small fee into the in store purchase amount so the inventory checks are all in place and nothing is screwed up.

All your inventory checks are done, the sale was done via the "internet" (in store) and the customer never had to hassle to do anything. If you want to succeed you have to adapt to things, but something as minor as this should never be a problem. In fact if done right the customer would never even know it went through the website but they'd still leave the store with the stock they wanted.
