Why do you keep using very confusing and or misleading nomenclature to describe your livestock?

Can you please explain what a tank raised hippo tang is?

Did you not import these from overseas? Have they been through quarantine (since they are notorious for ich)? Are they some of the very select few that were captive bred at Taiwan?s Fisheries Research Institute ? Eastern Marine Biology Research Center?

I am sorry for the confusion cmantis but we try our best to use precise terms which accurately describe our fish.

Being tank raised these hippo tangs have been collected either as an egg or fry and raised up in a tank. These fish adapt much better to a captive diet than a wild caught fish.

Captive bred fish are just as you said. They are conceived by parents living in a tank, hatched, and raised within a tank.
Here is an excellent article which helps to explain the difference http://www.fishchannel.com/sustainable-reefkeeper/tank-raised-and-captive-bred-livestock.aspx

Our hippos have been here for 1 - 2 weeks so far and are very happy and healthy specimens!

Ok maybe I am coming to better understand but I think much of these terms are still very confusing without much research and therefore can be misleading.

Because of their reproductive habits and hard-to-feed larvae, these fishes have eluded the best efforts of breeders, and some of them have a dismal reputation when it comes to mortality in the aquarium.

To be clear these tangs were not bred in captivity. These are wild-caught fishes, net-collected as small post-larval and juvenile fishes and then reared at island facilities.

The terms tank reared or tank raised have frequently been confused and even abused.

Was just there and got a yellow tang. Store is very nice and clean. Fish look healthy, and corals look good with nice polyp extension on the sps pieces. More importantly the staff is very friendly. Definitely coming back again!

The Red Sea blonde naso is huge! By far the largest I've ever seen, probably around 9-10 inches
