Just added inverts and have a few questions

I added my clean up crew of 8 red leg hermits, 2 emerald crabs and 1 cleaner shrimp to my BC 14. Since I have not added fish or corals yet, do I need to feed them any seaweed or will what's on the LR be ok for them to feed ?

Also, I noticed before leaving for work today, one hermit is out of his shell and dead. Since I just added this past monday, is that a bad indicator ? or did he lose the battle for his shell ? My water tests read the same as they did on Sunday night and Monday morning.

How old is the tank. Do they have what to eat in there. If not then you have to feed them.
Losing one may just be a matter of chance. If you lose more than you may have a water quality problem. Two crabs seems a lot to me in that small a tank. But I don't have any including hermits because I think they cause more problems than they are worth. They are interesting to watch. Good luck.

Since most of the crabs are fairly small, where can I get more, larger shells to accomodate their growth ?

Your LFS probably sells empty shells. Since your tank is new and small, there's probably not much for the CUC to eat. I'd throw some fish food in there for them to eat for now.

there's a good (BWA-hahahahaha :funnypost ) amount of algae.

I guess they skipped dinner and went straight to dessert :chefico:

Will do. When we got home from work last night, I noticed the body wasn't there anymore and I saw 2 hermit legs scattered in the sand. They must love the water!


And talk about sleeping with the fishes...
