Get those nitrates under control if they're indeed closer to 50ppm. It'll take some time (4-6 weeks) for those BPs to colonize to be effective. Don't wait that long...

Suggestion: You can use a carbon source to "help" both the BP and lower in the mean time the nitrate levels, then by the time the BP are effective you can stop the carbon dosing.

i am also supplementing with seachem de nitrate but what carbon would you suggest i also have a TLF 150 with rowaphos running I also moved him a little higher a friend of mine came by and said that he should be greener than he is and that they love a lot of light so i moved him a little higher he said that might also help

Well you have several possibilities, vodka is one of them and I use it, but as said there are other possibilities and vinegar is about 8x times less powerful than vodka and might be of good help in avoiding over dosing.

Some might suggest vodka, but I personally use distilled white vinegar as it's potency is approximately 8x less than vodka, so it'll give you flexibility and less chance of a cyano bloom.

Definitely monitor your nitrates before dosage and after a few days of dosing. Adjust accordingly to the chart in the link.

Actually when u lower ur dkh coming outta the cal reactor it that will raise ur ph.I was having the same issues which I didn't really see any did in my coral .but I'm crazy and have to have everything perfect so I started using kalk water to top off in my at seams to be holding a higher ph now

but how can you lower the dkh coming out of the Calc reactor and also i was thinking about dosing vodka for my nitrates until my NP biopellets kick in what can i use to measure the vodka the dosage seems to be 0.1ml per 25 gal how can i measure that :irked:

How long has your tank been running? It seems like you are adding a lot of stuff before it's fully established. That's just what I'm thinking. Dialing in a reactor takes lots of time patience and testing daily. Are you using a ph controller to shut the rx on and off?

It's been running now for a little over 1 1/2 i just added the reactor about three months ago my calcium and dkh in the tank are good its just the PH is low and my nitrates went up due to ran out of salt and couldnt do any water changes for about 3 weeks and i just got the NP bio pellets one week ago so i know that they are not fully established yet looking to take out the denitrate once the NP is good but since i added the Calc reactor been having problems with my ph and everything i read says that to be expected just wanted to know how to fix it and yeah i have the SMS122 ph contoller monitoring the efluent coming out

Oh ok kool. When I added my rx to my established tank. I almost lost all my sps in the beginning. I sold all my sps and stayed w sorties until my rx was dialed in. Alk spikes is what was messing me up. Advice I was given is.. Keep rx running, dose until you get the levels to where you want, then leave it alone and just test and monitor every few days. Now my alk is steady at 9.2 and cal 420. I just dose mag daily for now.
