Somewhat of an expert yes because I spent too many years married to a jealous S.O.B. that hated my love of this hobby. So I have a practice of not sharing what I spend on my tanks...lol.

I have to because my boyfriend is starting to catch onto the costs b/c I made the mistake of taking him to a few lfs's, the swap, etc. :banghead: :smash: :fishhit:

So...:idea:...you work at home...sneak it in with office supplies. You have to go grocery shopping...slide it in w/ the groceries and under the kitchen sink until he's asleep, have it sent to a trusted friends house and then they can drop off "their unwanted goods" to your house, start having girls night out w/ other female reefer's. You only live once and I've come to the conclusion at the ripe old age of 30 after a long miserable marriage that I have something that I love which is this hobby both FW/SW, my pitbull and my cat and I refuse to part with any of them because they are what truly make me happy to the core. I love my children and I have an amazing boyfriend, but they do not understand the cost.

/Your husband has to have a hobby that interests him, something...anything? Shove him off onto that while you're doing your reefing "dirt" lol

Yeah, I made the same mistake of taking him to the frag swaps. Now he knows what things actually cost.
He is not all bad, he loves the tank, corals, fish, our pitbulls, cats, kids & our 6 grands.
We're just a little strap for cash due to his retirement, so reef spending is not a real option at the moment. But it will be better once the retirement thing gets straight. I can more or less get away with my reefing cause he enjoys it as much as I do, and he has the added benefit that he has nothing to do for it except to pay for stuff, brag to his friends, and enjoy it.:lovestory

So what the heck am I complaining about you ask: I can no longer splurge, and the fact that he is so bored with retirement that he can't stand to be alone.LOL

I just lmao! Your house sounds like mine I have 5 tanks, 3 kids, 1 pitbull and 1 cat. I'm sorry to hear that you can't splurge, but it will get better! At least you're able to keep your tank running and he's enjoys it with you! I'd be so depressed if I couldn't have a tank at all.

Yeah pretty much the same! We have the 155 gal reef, 3 pities, and the 3 cats. I got rid of a couple of tanks about 2 years ago, a coouple of years ago we also had 4 granddaughters living with us.
Same here, I'd also be depressed without my charges...

Now that we stole FMOF's thread I think we should let the guys have their thread back.LOL

That said i'll purchase a hobby related item and put it in a Gamestop bag. when she's pissed that i bought some overpriced video game i just tell her it's a fish related item.i just put it in the bag for leaks. for the split second she's glad i didn't buy the game,i say "cool right?" and walk away quickly. the only thing many of the women i know think is more ridiculous than the hobby,is gaming.lol
