leather coral affecting other corals?

I was talking to a lfs owner and asked if they would take finger leather frags. They said they don't want finger leahters and don't even sell them. They explained that leather corals causes color-loss in other corals.

Is this true? They seem very knowledge in all other aspects and had great customer service so, I take it there that is some truth to this?

Anybody else heard of this?

Leathers like to slough(spelling?) when they are stressed. Its kinda like a chemical that affects other corals. Thats the only thing I can think of

I'm not sure if they can cause color loss in corals but they do release chemicals and can cause problems with other corals in the tank. It's good to run carbon if you have them in your tank.

Leathers release terpenoids into the water column as a defense mechanism as already mentioned when they battle other corals for space. +3 on running carbon in the system which helps to keep them at bay.

yes chemipure elite is carbon and gfo so that will work
