How often should I clean my skimmer , I have an Itech 200 , just the cup or the whole neck?

Neck also ? if you clean the neck of the skimmer your going to wipe all that good stuff that your skimmer as been skimming weekly to keep your tank spotless. In other words the bacteria from the skimmer your cleaning out and its going to have to break in again in order to keep your tank spotless. Just clean the collection cup only.

clean it all.. i clean mine once a week the whole thing. in minutes its skimming like a champ again. never heard of the skimmer needing to build anything up

I have a automated neck and cup cleaner which cleans it daily. I used to manually clean the whole cup and neck weekly. I also do a complete breakdown every year(Whole base, body, venturi, lines and pump)

Definitely neck also. I don't think breaking in a skimmer has to do with bacteria.

I didnt think so, lol I thought it had something to do with the coat of slime or somthing on the inner neck. so you would not have to wait for it to break in again. am glad i got the Itech so much more efficient than my mtc hsa 250.

Quick question when you guys said neck. Did you guys mean the neck from the collection cup or the neck from the skimmer? Reason i ask is because I thought you guys meant the neck from the skimmer itself.

The whole thing should be cleaned neck , cup , collar , and your neck too angelo!lol
