Hello all,

My female gold striped maroon (about 3 1/2") has been moving all my sand from the back of my tank to the front. Thought that was a little weird but didn't think much of it.

Tonight while rescaping my tank I saw the biggest pod I've ever seen. This guy must have been about 1/2 inch or so. My tank is new (8 weeks or so) and my fish have only been with me for a little less than 2 weeks. This is the first pod I've seen and noticed that my clown was moving the sand towards the pod. Meaning, it appeared that my clown was throwing sand in the general vicinity of the giant pod. Is that normal? Could it be that my clown has been moving the sand to try to get rid of the pods?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I had couple clowns years back that do the same but forgot what are ALL the reasons that they do it. At least, I know how to use sand to kill a coral if they want that space for their own or decorate that space to their liking. If that's what they are doing, you have remove the coral. The stronger clowns such as maroons, tomatoes are famous decorators that carry small corals, rocks away from their homes.

I don't have much coral because my tank is still pretty new. Slowly stocking it.

I am definitely glad I know where the clowns sand bomb so I won't put coral there.

Sounds like this might be a long term problem.

Thanks for your help guys!

When they host in corals, they do the same wagging behavior. One of my large hairy mushrooms was pestered to death by it...

I have a 2 giant cup mushrooms and they've taken residence in it however these mushrooms seem to be able to withistand their "wagging".

Those mushrooms might also be capable of eating your clowns too...
