I just have to ask this question If there was a runner up

How dose the AquaticLife Aquarium CO2 Regulator measure up

I have never used one of those before. I had one in the past that I think was called M3. Nothing else will measure up to an electronic controlled valve since it will not change as the tank pressure changes.

Hi guys,

A quick question about the CO2 regulator sold by AquariumPlants dot com: I read somewhere that you do not need a check valve for it, as it "comes with one internally": is that really the case?

As for the no need for a solenoid, I just assume that no electricity to the little black box means no bubbles?

What do you think about the current version in terms of noise? Aka the click-clack when the valve is opening and closing to release a bubble?

Sure it's check valve? Needle valve I think. Highly recommend a check valve, AquariumPlants sells a medical grade check valve, pricey (for a check valve) but reviews says it's less susceptible to cracking. I have 2 on my Carbondoser, the AquariumPlants check valve and some Ebay check valve I got for like $5.

their (now called) carbon doser claims to have a built in check valve but i still put one inline any way....a cheap insurance for a few hundred dollars piece of equipment, imo. plus i do see a little bit of salt water siphoning back in to the co2 hose that comes from the black box to the reactor valve when the unit is off at night. i run my calcium reactor during the day (when the display lights are on).

mine is the older manual dial model.... a few years old now and still kicking. i do not hear any "click clak" as you put it and yes no electricity no co2.

Thanks for the information guys. I am looking at the model with a dial (since I could care less about a digital bubble-meter)

That is where I had read about the "internal check valve" initially. There is a comparison sound-wise between the oldest and second model.

I will probably get it along with one of their "medical grade" check valves.

i have the "quiet" model...2nd in this video.....i'm sure i've read that there was a build in check valve on my model.
i don't have the needle bounce as shown on the video. the video was dated 2008. i think i got mine around 2009?.....perhaps a newer version?
still think it's the best regulator i've used. set and forget. i only do maintenance when i need to add calcium media and mag chips....which is about 8-10 months intervals.

Thanks guys, that is great. I will definitively go for it. I was looking for info from people like you who have had it for a while and thus have a more mature opinion.

(since most users always refuse to criticize something they just got... me included ;-) )

Pretty cool, didn't realize they have or had 2 different models. I bought mine around 2012 (shortly after Sandy), and there was only one (the current one) on their website.

Good to see they're still proactively looking for ways to improve their claimed "Best CO2 Regulator" in the world.
