Jenna, I had the heat problem too when I first set up my tank. Part of the problem is when it's humid the tank doesn't evaporate out the heat the pumps and stuff are creating so the temp just keeps climbing. Def take the lid off, and try pointing a fan at the water surface. That will help evap, but don't forget you will need more top off if you don't have an ATO (which really is a must). Just a little desk fan will do. Much much cheaper than a chiller.

+1 on no lids. Evaporation is goos. Helps maintain temp and supports oxygenation and gas exchange. Make a net screen if your worried about jumpers.

@wale Did you ever get the sr3 skimmer? I'm still shopping around.

I got the skimmer, setup and running but it's not really skimming yet. Can't get it to break in.

Thanks inevo and fish, I tried leaving the lid open and I think it helps. As far as the net, how about stockings? I dont have any jumpers but hoping to score a spotted jawfish
By the way I have a koralia powerhead its 425gph pointing to glass, is there such a thing as too much flow?

@wale I got the aquatic life mini skimmer and I haven't put it on but you have yours in the return chamber correct?

New Pic, I admit I've been very naughty.
Thankfully everything is corrected with my 8 gallon as well. Once my office desk is rid off hopefully I can convince my girl to let me get a new tank, as my official QT.

You can make a pod pile w rubble rock and stocking in the tank. However it wont be enough for a mandarin if thats what you are thinking.

well for pods to live in and to control nitrate, since I plan on having 2 maybe 3 fishes. There's only a few inhabitants for now; the mandarin, and a few asstd snails.

The tank looks decent, definitely packed with frags. I hope the zoas grow well like it did on the smaller tank. On the upside my chalices are very happy.

I'm getting rid of the bioballs very slowly. I'm almost done. No really. Frankly I forgot to take some out the last two water changes. The noise from the water dropping from the rear chamber is so annoying.

I'll hopefully have dslr pics later on.

Thank you. This coral addiction is worse than my swimwear and jeans collection lol.

I did loose a purple and a gold torch recently and within a matter of days because I forgot to dip. I usually do, but the day I forget of course I loose a coral.

@robandsons I don't know where to start since I'm new myself but you should start a new thread with pics, more importantly indicate your parameters and as much info you can give us about your tank.
