Rinsing sand

Can I rinse new sand in regular NYC tap water without causing issues down the road for my reef, such as unwanted nutrients and chemicals? I assumed I would have to use distilled water for this step, but I'd like to give it a good thorough rinse, and could probably do more if I used tap.

This is going into a new set-up, but using existing (and currently running) equipment and live rock.

I know some say tap water is fine for their reef, I've never attempted tap and don't plan to outside of this possibility.

Thoughts?

Use tap as many times as u like the rodi for final rinse.

I've also wondered if rinsing is actually washing away good minerals?

I would rinse and final soak/rinse with ro water then dry it out completely then use. I used sand from a system before and had very hi phospates for a long time. It was not being leached from rock either.
