Search the hypo salinity treatment in about.com you will find a step by step procedure. Easy to follow. You still need to check on the ammonia level. Without corals, and inverts you can feel free to use ammonia suppressing chemical. If you do use ammonia suppressing chemical like Amquel+, make sure you realized that the ammonia test kit value has no more meaning once you added it. You will have to closely watch your fish for signs of elevated ammonia, during the hypo treatment. If your sand bed is thick and and old, you may have a big ammonia spike because a lot of stuff living in the sand will die too.

Yeah gotta do some research.. How long can fish stay in a QT out of curiosity?

except for some odd balls, they can stay in hypo almost indefinitely when done properly. The tang and clownfish will have no issue with hypo.

I meant if I were to use my QT for copper treatment, how long can fish actually stay in the QT with no issues?

Using copper will kill bio-filter, so you have to keep up with the ammonia by constant water change, when done right, they can stay indefinitely but you have to work indefinitely.

Appreciate it. Woke up today and my QT is cloudy for some reason, don't know exactly why. All levels were in check

Whats in it just water?I never had a QT go cloudy on me but then again its just a 20g with cut pvc and a hob filter for carbon.

Nothing is in it lol. Water, heater, cut pvc and that's about it. Used a sponge that I had in my sump for a filter and that's about it. Some bioballs but nothing major, I used that nutri seawater because supposedly its not supposed to cycle. Mixed some of that with some of my actual tank water. Guess its cycling?

maybe from the sponge it is cycling. I dont know but sounds like a bacteria bloom

Yeah I guess so. I tested ammonia 0, nitrite is at .25 ppm. Guess wait it out see what happens I was hoping to put some fish in it today to treat it but I can't.
