Ok so I know I'm still a newbie when it comes to saltwater etc but have a question regarding and external durso. Was given my brothers old 75 which as an external durso and an internal overflow box that the gargle is killing me. Now I know that with tubing out the top that I can kind of play with it trying to find its sweet spot.

Is there any other way I can adjust this or recommendations on how to eliminate at least some of the gargle?

Oh and just in case, the water levels are fine when I checked them this morning. Had to add some water recently as the warmer basement and open top contributes to evap. Will definitely need to invest in a decent ATO at some point just to be precautionary.

If you post a picture of the durso it would be a lil easier. Often times it helps putting a ball valve on the drain to regulate how much water goes down into the sump.

Is it that my return pump is too strong and forcing too much water to go down the overflow?
Yes. To be silent a drain must have either a full siphon or a slow enough flow to let the water nicely run down the pipe. Anything in between and you get gurgling and flushing. This link is a very good drain pipe system but it also has a nice write up about flow speed and what causes noise.

Liking the bioball idea... guess they cause enough "drag" for lack of a better word to help control it a bit. Might have to give it a shot. Found out a lot of the noise is coming is just coming from the damn overflow box that was installed. i had a scrubber sponge that I had cut and put down the sides, still allowing water flow but slowign it down just enough to lower some of the noise.

Not exactly going for silence but sometimes it does seem overwhelming without any sort of intervention. Thanks for the ideas guys.

If you have a drillbit set. Plug the hole then start with the smallest drillbit and work your way up in size till the noise stops. This happens when the hole/air inlet is the right size.
