I bought a arrow crab to see if he will eat my bristle worms , the very next day I bought him I saw him eating one hermit crab wasnt sure if it was dead before he got him so I let it go, but just now I saw him eating another one and this one looked alive. Is this normal??????? By the way I havent seen him eating any birstle worms and I still see a big one at night.

At the store were I bought him they told me he would eat regular fish food and bristle worms I did a search online I cant find any recommendations on what to feed him.

WoW. It must be serial killer arrow crab. Kidding aside, there are different arrow crabs, some are more aggressive and some are not. All the ones I have are tamed. Do a Google search, and compare if yours is the aggressive kind even though yours looks same as mine.

just curious, what's the retail price of the crab in florida?

$9.99 Do you know the different kinds of arrow crabs? I toguht they were all the same. How often and what do you feed yours?

NEVER. They find their own food in my tanks. Do you generally, have left overs from feeding youur fish in the tank? I used DIY frozen food, so there is always something floating around for whatever in my tank to eat.

I Am So Happy Just When I Was Thinking I Bought A Little Monster That Wont Do His Job I See Him Eating A Bristle Worm I Am So Happy. Yes There Is Some Food On The Sand But The Cleaner Shrimp Usually Eats It. I Just Bought Frozen Krill Today For Him To FEED HIM Every Two Days Do You Recommend I Dont Feed Him AT ALL?

Ok, I know this might be off topic, but are bristle worms bad for a tank? I have a few in my 12G, and they eat leftovers from the fish feedings. I know some places say they are good, other that they are bad. I just need some clarification

I don't like them because of the look. Actually, I am kind of scare of their looks, especially when they are big.

Bristleworms

DonCisco,

Bristleworms are alright, they are good scavengers. They can grow very large however after time but are okay for the most part, in my experience. I have read some folks talk about them eating things in the tank but I have never personally seen any of mine going after anything.

I did do the research on the arrow crab but found nothing bad about them so I felt pretty safe in buying him, I got very freaked out when I saw the bristle worms I dont like their appearance so I dont want them in my tank.

If you hate worms, get someone to take them out of your tank. (Your arrow crab seems to be doing a good job, but I have heard that they also eat hermit crabs.) It's your tank, and if something in it creeps you out, give it away. I am sure there are other reefers who would appreciate some cleaners.

:)

I just dont want to have to many brsitle worms now at night I only see one big one but before I use to see at least 8 so Im happy now. I love to watch my tank at night so its a big deal for me not to see those worms I get goose bumps when I see them cause I really dont like their appeareance. I like the feather duster and the qtip sponges I have.

I think you should keep the bristle worms you have and ditch the arrow crab ;\
Bristleworms cover the entire class of polychaetes. Their behavior varies too much to make general statements about their behavior. These fireworms you are trying to exterminate are most likely harmless scavengers. Unless you've actually seen some killing your fish I dont think you should worry about them, and leave them be.

Aarow Crabs: Will scavenge most aquarium foods. Also preys on many smaller animals.

Very Aggressive will do best in aquariums over 150 gallons.

The aaror crab is an interesting animal but with a mixed and even nasty reputation in reef tanks, it will attack other crustaceans.

I got this but just opening a book. The pocket guide to marine inverts. So you couldn't have researched aarow crabs that fully unless your research includes and only encompasses the shoddy advice your LFS gives you. Next time don't BS us tell the truth. And before you ask a question or seem like you're in distress ask yourself " Do I really want their help or do I just want them to validate my error?"
