Help! what is this?!

Hi guys,

Just a couple of problems going on in the tank (see pictures below)...

First there's a sort of bubble algae growing on some of my live rock and I'm just wondering what it is and how I would go about getting rid of it.

Secondly, there's some sort of white cottony like stuff growing on my monti and I have no idea what it is...is it dying???

Any ideas or suggestions would be nice. Thanks everybody!

dont know much about image 2, but image 1 looks more like air bubbles being trapped under some layer of algae or cyano. if you give the area a light blast with a turkey baster, the air bubbles will likely become dislodged and rise to the surface. That wouldnt happen if it was actual bubble algae.

It is a RSM250 which had been set up for 6 months now

And yes when I blow the algae the bubbles do rise to the top

Can it be dinoflagellates?

That's what I was thinking but they look a little different than other pictures I was seeing.

It looks like Dinoflagellates or cyano. More likely option A over B. How new is the tank? Is it still in the cycling stage or the awkward "growing up" stage of less than 1 year?

It is done cycling so i guess growing up stage since its only been up and running for 6 months.

Just syphon out what you can but dont go to crazy. Make sure you use r.o water and routine maintenance and it'll sort itself out
