2 questions i would appreciate help with: I jujst purchase a coral life power compact (4*65 wt) and the fan is always on, only one however. 1) Is it supposed to be like this?; 2) I don't like the fan noise, so i diconnected the one that goes on. Is this ok or is it bad for th light? thanks.

There is only (1) fan on that unit. The other side with the fan grill, is just a vent.
The fan should definitely be on as long as the lights are on. The bulbs really heat up & there is not much ventalation, as it's an enclosed unit.
First thing to melt away on those units are: the rubber "O" rings that keep the bulbs in place, the plastic shield cover, then the wire harness that attaches the bulb.
I modified my older unit by adding a 2nd fan where the vent is, which helped alot.
If the fan is making noise...there is most likely a problem with it.
They are pretty silent.

Because these are not computer fans...!
Yes I've seen a PC fan. Have you seen a Coralife "Power Compact" fan??

We are speaking about Coralife "Power Compact" fixtures.
These fans are totally different & are about an 1" 1/2.

I posted the link to the correct replacements.

If you're looking for small fans try directron.com, picked these up for a T-5 canopy I'm working on. While the site says 5V the ones I got were 12V, really quite.

On the fixture you could always put a timer on the fan to shut on/off with the lights.
