You don't know how fast I just ran over to my 72 bow checking all the seals and the center braces...

That really bites Paulg... It'd be nice if we could see through Rubbermaid containers as well as we can glass. Then we wouldn't have to worry about these things. It's nice to know the manufacturer is standing behind their product and making good on this.

My 72 bow was actually something I talked my husband into getting me for Christmas last year. It was an awesome deal of $180 for both tank and stand as the tank has a half-inch chip in the glass on the left rear corner on the inside between the glass and the sealant. I've been keeping my eye on it all along with no change in size or anything. My husband had bought a 280 gallon from the same guy a month earlier for only $70 due to it no longer being able to hold water. It's home to one of our lizards right now but should anything happen to the 72 bow you can bet your bippie (is that really a word?) that I'll be taking some sealant to the 280 and making that a reef... shhh, don't tell my husband

Howdy,

Sorry to hear about the tank blowing out. It always amazes me that most manufactured stands do not offer any support across the bottom surface. It may not be too important for glass tanks, since the glass is suspended above the bottom base of the tank. It is important for acrylic tanks in my opinion. I had a 75 gallon acrylic hexagon tank and the stand it came with had an open top.

The first time I filled the tank up with water, the bottom sagged about 1.5" and totally freaked me out. I decided there was no way I was going to add a hundred pounds of live rock if the bottom was only going to sag even more.

I emptied the tank and proceeded to route a rabbit edge all the way around the inside top of the stand. I then cut a piece of 3/4" plywood to match the hole. The wood fit perfectly and kept the tank from sagging.

I know this would be alot harder to do with a glass tank, but it might be worth it if the bottom glass is too thin. I don't think the mass manufacturers consider the tanks they make might be used for marine setups with live rock. The glass might be able to handle the rated gallons of water, but probably not the random amount of weight added by live rock.

Good luck,

Scott.

$16 K?!??! Please tell me that very little of that was cleaning/replacing the carpet. I don't think my wife would be happy with the tank breaking and a huge carpet replacement bill.

Oh Paul, this is incredibly sad and I'm very sorry:(...Anyway, bowfronts have been often accused of blowing and I am aware of this even here in Greece. Don't hesitate to demand any kind of compensation....Good luck!

I don't think he's posted since Oct. It's possible he's still "tankless".

Here's your answer.

I just wanted everyone to know about a problem that has ruined me from reef keeping! I bought a 92 gal corner bow front aquarium from All Glass Aquariums back in feb of this year. Two months later, the bottom blew out and destroyed my complete set up and most of my living room, not to mention, endangered my family who was in the room at the time. All Glass assured me that they would pay for ALL of my damages. After I sent them the bill they recoiled and denied any payment despite calling me and telling me that I was entitled to everything I submitted. I received a letter from the president of sales informing me that they weren't responsible despite me sending pictures of what happened to the tank, and doing everything they asked of me. These people lied and I just want everyone to know that if you have an All Glass Aquarium-BEWARE!!!

I looked at all of his old posts and this was his last one on October 31st. I think we lost him for good :( How sad that it all had to turn out that way.

I wonder how it happened. It's something you rarely if ever hear about an AGA.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the kind words and all about this. The final result was that they paid about 4 grand of the final bill! That is after they told me that they wouldn'nt pay a dime. I'm not sure why they eventually did pay some but I did send a letter to the pres of AG. My insurance payed some as well but I fitted most of the bill. As to loosing me, here's that deal. About two months after buying the 92gal I had my reef in, I bought my wife a 65 for just her. Honestly I haven't looked at her tank since everything happened then alone touched it. I just within the week actually did a water change for her because her tank had a large brown alge bloom. The whole thing has seriously damaged my love for reef keeping, saltwater, ect. I know to some that might seem extreme," one accident and he just quits?". If you folks had any idea what it took to get to the point I finally got to. I may put things into perspective by posting the letter I sent to AG. Thanks again for the support.

Dear Mr. Ritzow,
I would like to personally thank you and your staff for making my dream come true. Well, almost. First of all I have tried to contact you personally but you have not returned my calls. I imagine that's because you have somewhat been informed of me by Mr. Mulholland. Please allow me to tell you why your company has "almost" allowed my dream to come true.
Back in 1990, I purchased my first saltwater aquarium. Being a young new airman in the US AirForce, I didn't have much money. What I did have was commitment though. That's when I first caught the "corral reef bug". I had a dream to one day own my very own corral reef aquarium. Through the years having children and all, I wasn't able to afford this due to the cost. I always put my family first, as I should have. Over the last seven years though I had to endure a divorce and to raise my three children as a single parent, further keeping my dream a far distance. I had to rebuild my life buying everything I own over again. Last year I was called to serve my country in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. I spent alot of time away from my family and when I returned I finally had saved enough money to buy my first real reef aquarium set up from your company. I purchased a 92gal corner bow front , completely reef ready from my local fish store. With the help from their employee we set up the complete system. I patiently waited the full two months for the break in period to be over. I was very anxious to get started and the time had come to place my first live corral in the tank. For the entire time we were waiting for the break in period to finish I would test and retest the water making sure everything was "perfect". My family and I would turn out the lights at night and watch the creatures from the live rock come out to feed. Many times looking from under the tank to look at the sand bottom to see what could be seen. I hovered over that tank like it was a newborn baby making sure everything was going perfectly, almost obsessed. I was waiting for the weekend to purchase my first corral and we all couldn't wait. Then came Tuesday night june 21. My children were in the living room watching tv just feet from the tank when I heard the most awful sound! My children came running out screaming!
For rooms sake I have left out the details already explained in prev. posts.
Cont......
.....This experience has taught me some very valuable lessons. One, I should have received a written approval from your company to pay for the damages. I took your company at it's word and that was stupid on my part. Two, that it doesn't pay to be honest. Someone else would have fallen on the floor in the middle of that mess of broken glass and claimed personal injury(Idea not thought of by me). Which would have cost your company dearly. Of which I did not. I am angry about this whole situation but mostly hurt. You see, I had a dream that was not only broken once, but broken twice. Your company promised to put me back to my origanal state before this unfortunate situation happened. YOUR COMPANY LIED! And that is very unfortunate for you. You see, since my dream is gone, I won't be spending my time taking care of my new corral reef aquarium. I now have plenty of time time to do some free advertising for your company. Thank you for allowing me to fulfull my dream!

That really sucks :!: In my 30 + years of fish keeping I had one tank leak out. It was my 50 gallon salt. I was lucky because I was watching it when it broke and managed to quickly move the inhabitants to a my 100 gallon. It was alos in my basement so nothing got damaged. My LFS exchanged the tank.
