Question: would a chocolate chip starfish and the clam not mix?

I know he is not reef safe but he doesnt bother my anemone's, or any other inverts. My tang doesnt bother my anemone, but does not mean he wouldnt pick on the clam (he finally laided off the newest member - royal gramma and let him swim around).

I personally wouldn't trust a Chocolate Chip with clams. They are very opportune predators and you can never rule out them getting into a clam. Many actually recommend feeding these starfish clams Anemones possess plenty of deterrant for this starfish, but clams are more susceptible.

Seeing as I am going to be a responsible reef keeper and going to wait until I have MH to keep the beautiful clams, I was wondering if any one of you more experiences guys can send me a GOOD link or some resource that tells me:
1) What corals I can place under PC lighting
2) What is their feeding requirements
3) What is their requirements regarding placement
4) What are hardy, what should 1st time reefers stay away from..that sort of info.
5) Especially a source w. pictures (esp since the ppl down at the local fish store cant seem to get things straight I want to be paying the right price for something)

I dont know of too many webpages, I know of a lot of books though. Try doing a search on this site up at the very tippy top of the page for a few sites and see what comes up.

Ya I know even the one fish store around here agrees w. me that this site is the bible for this sorta stuff.

I have a tale for you all regarding LFS.

I was at privately owned fish store downtown, and I asked the owned some questions to test his honesty.
1) Is 4x65w of PC enough for a Croeca Clam? His response was: Oh heck ya wwwwwwwwwwhoa that is overkill...
2) Can a Flame Angel go with anything (ie corals/coral beauty)? His response was: Oh anything it is a pretty tame fish, compatible w. everything.
3) I have heard Moorish Idol's are hard to keep even for the more experienced reef keepers, is that so? His response: Oh they are one of the more easier fish to maintain.

Anyhow glad i usually do lots of research before I buy things, so I went home and read and found out clams anything less than MH = dealth, Flame Angel can nip at corals, and bother other dwarf angels (already knew that going into the store), also knew before hand that Moorish Idols are NOT easy to keep. Sooooo this guy was totally feeding me lines to get me to buy anything.

I went to my favorite LFS store 2nite and right now they are having issues with their stock and everything keeps dying. SO they told me do not buy from them for a month + until they get stuff figured out, to be on the safe side. Also when I asked them about the Clam they were like MH's nothing less, MH's x 3 if anything. I was so happy about their honesty....wish all stores were not just about making a buck, and who cares about the life of the fish, invert, or corals. Its to bad their stock is kaputz right now....have to drive an hour to go anywhere else now, seeing as I just can not trust the guy downtown.

Wish they had more of a variety when it comes to corals and colours...all so dull.
