I have a small 60litre tank which we set up at the beginning of Feb 06.
We have regularly tested the water and carried out 10% water changes. Over the last few weeks our Amonia, Nitrate and Nitrite have been a steady 0. PH is 8.2 and SG is 1022 both constant.

We have (I think) 16 hermit crabs, occasionally moulting and changing shells, and 4 turbo snails.
We also have loads of tiny shrimp like creatures. They are doing a good job of keeping the tank clean.

I know I should be patient and go slowly in stocking my tank but do you think it is ready for fish?

I have been advised by the pet store that as the tank is small I should only have a few small fish. We like colourful fish and they have to be easy to keep as we are new to this........any suggestions?

I'd say you're absolutely ready to go forward. It's true what your LFS said... that works out to about 16 gallons which is Nano territory. Damsels are colorful and easy to keep, but most are evil little bastards. Look into Occellaris Clownfish, Firefish, and Royal Gramma's, for starters.

Small wrasses if the top is covered or chalk bass

It actually looks like a much bigger tank from that picture

If you haven't already done so, check out the special section here on reefs.org regarding Nano (smaller) reef tanks.

http://www.reefs.org/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=55

Here's a link to a thread in that forum which lists lots and lots of possible fish for your tank, the genus and species and it's requirements...

http://www.reefs.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=44760

:D That gives you some reading material. A tip...if you'd like to see a picture of any fish listed here, you can simply do a google image search for it. Once you narrow your choices down then you can post another thread for opinions.

Happy hunting!

Many thanks for the advice and link.
I have done a lot of reading and checking out. 8O What a lot to take in.
Will I ever get the hang of this!!!!!

We now have a wish list... of sorts....

1 Fire fish
1, or maybe a pair of Occellaris Clownfish
1 Yellow/blue Assessor

Maybe a non ven. Blennie (The pet store owner was pushing this one)

Hoping to buy 1 at a time as local pet store stocks up.
I don't think the tank could take anymore.

I think I am going to need a bigger tank, this hobby grows on you....
