You know how much I read about the reverse flow created when you shut off your pump.... Well... I forgot!!!!

I set up the overflow system on a bucket to make sure everything works and then said.. ok.. it works.. and left....

When I came back I had 2" or salt water in my living room!!!!

I think clowns choose their sex for you, so you don't have to worry about it. They are all female as juvinals, and when they reach maturity, half of a given population will become male. They then pair off and become a "couple" for life.

Shrimps are terrific, you'll love having one. Get the skunk cleaner shrimp, the rest tend to hide all the time (and the coral banded shrimp is vicious as I understand).

Stars are difficult to keep just because they live on natural prey. You need a big tank or they exhaust their food source and starve pretty quick.

As for fish, there are lots of blennies and gobbies you can keep. I had good luck with a yellow clown goby. Dottybacks are nice if you have good rockwork and lots of little caves. Some are more territorial than others, but that mostly only refers to the small area immediately in front of it's chosen home. Firefish are good if you have a lid. Any cardinal fish is nice too.

I had marginal luck with flasher wrasses. I think they require good water conditions, so you may want to wait before you attempt one. Six and eight line wrasses seem nice and juveniles, but can destroy everything when they mature. And above all stay away from damsels! They will assume all of a 30 gallon volume is their own and stress everything else to death.

I don't like gobies and blennies too much.. I will maybe have one or two..

I like the Cleaner shrimp...

Also I heard Mexican Turbo snails are good...

How about free good swimming fish, you know, the ones that hang out in the water column?

wrasses are interesting, but alot of them will eat shrimp, so make sure you research them and pick accordingly.
chromis and/or damsels are ok, but some damses are a bit fiesty at times.
basslets are cool for a smaller tank.
check out the yellow headed pearly jawfish. they are pretty interesting. they watch you when you watch them 8O
if you want to get a star, you might try one that stays small, like a red bali star, or some of the fromia stars. but this isn't something i would do for quite a while yet. stars are very sensitive, and will do best in a well established tank.

Why didn't anyone tell me that Nemos are fiesty!

He bites my hand everytime I put it in the tank!

What benefit does a clown get from the anemone?... and vise-versa?

Clowns do not need the anemone except in the wild (for protection). The anemone does need a clown in the wild (for protection and food). However, in the home aquarium having a clown is not a necessity for a healthy anemone.

I don't understand how that skimmer works, the foam or bubbles never reach the top of the skimmer, yet that nasty stuff accumulates in the colection cup... How??...Evaporation?

If you have gunk in you collection cup, then the foam is getting up there. Your tank is still new and there isn't a lot to skim, so it probably doesn't get up there all the time. You either haven't noticed it, or it's happening when your away/asleep/etc. The skimmer should get more consistent as time passes.

I have 20+ snails in my tank, and to be honest I don't like them too much, How do I control their population? any predator out there?

hey you don't want anything that is feeding on snails in your tank. I have predator worms that i am trying to rid myself of. If something is going to be eating snails they most likely will eat something else meaty.

also I have never had an issue with a coral banded shrimp being aggressive but some people say it.
