I had some of my sps dying and i thought all my levels were good but i just found out my refractometer was off cause when i tested with a hydrometer it came up as 1.021. Would that be low enough for sps to dye off? Im not sure how long the level has been low since before then i always used the refractometer. And yes i have re calibrated the refractometer

get the 35ppm pinpoint salinity calibration fluid and test your refractometer if you think its off, but I agree with Wes, the hydrometer is most likely the one that is off. It can read different depending on your water temp. I believe they are usually calibrated for 60 degree F water. Warmer temps such as in a reef tank give different readings.
