Apartment Insurance

I'm certainly not an expert, but heard the typical renters insurance covers equipment but not livestock.. bummer.

I have apartment insurance but I doubt they would cover a tank over a certain weight if the floor doesn'thold the weight or if the water overflows because of personal negligence. Now what I could see them covering is loss in case of a power outage or accidental spills becauseof a faulty pump or equipment.

But you should ask your insurer to be sure

Make sure that you have liability insurance to cover damage to the building and neighbor units caused by tank leakage or water overflow.

I personally have a very painful pending case related to the water damage originated from my apartment in Manhattan. The claimed amount has exceeded quarter of a million dollars so far.

It's not his tank, it's other water damage.

James, I know I shouldn't but I have to :tongue1::tongue1::tongue1:, a :tongue1::tongue1::tongue1:able decision and 1/4 mil. gone :tongue1::tongue1::tongue1:, as that story was really :tongue1::tongue1::tongue1:able.



I had a friend who wants me to buy an additional million dollar insurance for the jellyfish tank liability towards the neigbours in midtown penthouse. His own insurance only covers .8 mil. Water damage liability in Manhattan building is crazy. During building the bathroom, the architects' workers broke a small hole to the ceiling of downstair bath room. But the claim include a paint job for downstair that covers an old old patch(looks to me like 6 months to a year ago) by the window about 100 feet away from the bathroom where the hole actually is. The paint job alone costed $35,000.

if you have standard renters or homeowners insurance you will probably need a rider on the policy to cover the tank. and yes, it should cover negligence too (at least mine does).

The only thing your policy would cover you for is damage to the actual tank and equipment minus your deductible and third party liability for any water damage that might incure due to a breakage up to your policy liability limit.

I do not know of any policy that would cover for livestock.

Actually the accumulated claimed amount is far more than 250K, fortunately my home owner's insurance covers it.

It's not related to my tanks, but it's a water damage to the building and other owner's units. Sorry I can not disclose more because the case is still pending.

Water damange is the number one claim for apartments and homes in tri-state area, including Manhatthan, and fish tank leakage or overflow can easily cause the water damage.

hah.ahh...cover livestock. When you get a letter from the lawyers about the damage you just did to there home. You will kill the livestock yourself.

I added coverage on my renter's insurance, both for the equipment cost and the water damage. It was only a few bucks more a year.
