can i put a filter in my sump and take out the skimmer. will it cause a problem if i do so.:shhh: are is the skimmer the better way the one i have is collecting water. water is also comming out of the hose thats over the return line.

i would say a skimmer is just as if not more important then a filter. you dont need a filter in a sump, just some cheato and or a bag of carbon like chemi-pure.

Your sump in and of itself is a filter. With filter socks carbon placement, live rock and sand in it, it becomes one great filter. the skimmer is an added filtration device that improves water quality. Putting a filter in a filter with another filter next to it seems a little crazy to me. In addition I would add a phosphate reactor to augment your filtration and pollutant removal.
