Personally, I would get rid of the eel at this point ... it's only going to hurt your tank in the long run if it hasn't begun already (it does take some time for all the nutrients to build up) ... ESPECIALLY with SPS ... they are very sensitive creatures and don't do well in a nutrient enriched environment (even your LPS have a breaking point)

I will say however ... it is your tank ... you can do what you want with it ... heck we all get attached to the inhabitants in our tanks ... but from my experiences ... eels should be left to larger systems ... ones that are capable of supporting the excess nutrients ... cute very small but GROW VERY fast and poop ALOT.

Just a thought :)

David, thank you for your help and opinions. They are a big help. As far as the eel goes, I want to try to see if there is anything else I can do. Otherwise I have another tank that he can go in.

I have been reading about cyano being inhibited by a higher alk level. Being that my alk is at the bottom of the desirable range it is worth a shot to raise it and see what happens. I've been raising it a half a point every day so far and am currently reading 8-8.5. My goal is to slowly get to 10dKH and hold it there to see what happens. Whilst reading about the cyano, it appears that clams and sps appreciate around 10dKH. Maybe down the road, if I can get a handle on this situation, I will try sps again.

My wife and I are planning on purchasing our first home right after tax time so my first housewarming gift to myself will be a 120g+ 72" tank.
