I know its been a really hot month and I've run my AC alot but since adding my 180 gallon my electric bill spiked by a little over $100 this month! Just wanted to know what most people are estimating they thier aquariums are costing in electricity? Also, any energy saving tips out there?

Thanks for responding!

I just cleaned my A/C evaporator unit today with the garden hose. Lots of dirt and pollen get stuck in there and reduce air flow.

They sell a spray foam for this, but Home Depot was out of stock.

I also covered two windows on the west side of my house with cardboard, to see what kind of difference it would make.

While the sun was still out today my A/C unit seemed to be doing a much better job of keeping up with the heat.

glad i'm not alone

To keep my water temp from rising, I kept the central air on in my home A LOT more then I usually do during the spring/summer. In the past, I didn't mind if the temp in my home raised to 85 or so during the day since I am only sitting at my desk, but I noticed the water in my tank went up awfully quick...
My electric bill was $467 this month, and according to the statement, it has nearly doubled from the same time last year. Only thing that has changed from last year to this year is the pretty little reef tank in my office!!!

Well that and the fact that 2010 is on pace to be the hottest year on record. Everyone's electric bill is up this summer, not just the reefers. It's F'in hot out there.

I really was consider setting up another reef tank...with my electric bill so high...I have been thinking about other options...ie...moving away from MH to T5s or LED...
I am sure the A/C is killing the electric bill. Cuz I dont remember my winter bills being high..
