No oxygen in tank

well i did a water change yesterday. i went to my lfs first and i noticed in their 10 gallon they had the same 10 aqueon filter like me. BUT the thing was the water was all the way filled to the top because they took out the blue part that creats o2 bubbles. with the blue part on u cant fill the tank all the way to the top. with it off you can, but u dont get any "bubbles". i am not talking about an air stone or anything like that. if you have an aqueon filter youll know what i am talking about. it is the smalles first blue piece that creates and drop down flow creating bubbles. i took it off and my tank is all the way filled now since i did a water change. the surace of the water has less movement and it looks dusty. maybe because i crushed my pellets cause my damsels wont eat the pellets, and still wont eat if crushed. so saltwater fish tanks really need 02? i have a powerhead in it running though. my 2 chromis fish seemed stress ever since my firefish died and i did a water change. also i did re aquascape the rocks. they were like this even before i took out the blue part. heres a pic of the filter. the piece i took out was the one clostest to the right. and heres my tank filled up. my lfs told me i could fill it up all the way as long as i had live rock. and also are my chromis not eating cause they dont like the food or cause their stressed out? i remember seeing them eat the crushed ones once. they haven't eaten much since i have bought them, maybe thats why their stressed? should i return the food and get flakes??? and someone on here told me not to crush the food cause it will raise detrius levels but if i dont crush it they wont even take a nibble on it. they barely eat the crushed ones.

Your answer is Yes, saltwater fish tanks need o2. That blue thing doesn't make o2, it just makes bubbles. Surface agitation increases oxygen levels in the tank, assuming the top of the tank is open which your tank is not from the pics. I'm really trying to help you, but you need to go to the library and pick up a book. Even better if you can buy a book for reference.

My eyes are BURNING from trying to separate that dogpile of sentences.

How big is this tank? Is this a 10 gallon?

You shouldn't be that worried about O2 in your tank... your Hang-on-back filter should help create flow in your tank.

Besides I think O2 right now is the least of your problems. Fix your parameters because you said a firefish just died and your other fish look stressed.

Your fish might not be eating cause of your parameters. Hungry fish are one of the good tell-tale signs that your tank is in good shape. It doesn't matter what food you try to feed them, because if fish are hungry, you can make them eat most foods, (except for certain fish which require specific foods)

And lastly, SLOW DOWN. Constantly changing things in your tank, especially if it is a small tank will put it into constant shocks.

I have teared down my tank several times just to "re-aquascape" my tank and each time I have regretfully caused shock to it. The fish and coral needed time to adjust and get back to normal. Especially if this is a smaller tank, moving around rocks, and disturbing your sand bed filled with crushed, uneaten food can create nitrate spikes. Also creating dirty water. one thing leads to another but right now, do a water test.

there is an acrylic cover on the tank. not fully covered because it needs to have space for filters, etc. so theres 2 inches along the back that it's open along the whole width of the tank. i am feeding ocean nutrition formula one. i checked my params 3 days ago MYSELF and ammonia was 0 nitrite 0 and PH WAS 8.8. so i thought i probably messed up the ph test. anyways i was going to mylfs and thought id bring a water sample. my lfs tested my water and the ph was 8.2 when the store tested it. my lfs is very reputable. 9 out 0f 10 on reviews. it is number one in nj. I WILL TEST THE WATER AGAIN. the firefish died a week ago. and after the firefish died the fish started acting weird. the firefish died because i feed it small dried shrimp which was probably dirty and it WASNT ment for fish. it probably wasnt prepared correctly. so the mouth on the firefish was ripping and i think it might have been cotton mouth. i am keeping an eye on the two chromis's because i dont want them to get infected. but so far nothing on their mouth's. idk my nitrate but it's probably low. all my corals are huge thouch. my leather as doubled in size. although my candycanes dont look as green as they can be, their still very bright. my sg should be around 1.025 - 1.026

tank is 10 gallons. i do have a cover. params were ok last time i checked with lfs. when i tested it MYSELF 3 DAYS AGO I FOUND THE PH TO BE 8.8 BUT MY LFS SAID IT WAS 8.2 AND I PROBABLY DID SOMETHING WRONG. my fish died a week ago and i did a water change the next day just to be safe. I ALSO FORGOT TO MENTION 2 weeks ago i changed my water. it was bubbly ans stagnant so i did another one the next day. and it was still stagnant. maybe that caused stress? i did my latest water change on sunday. i have been told to leave the tank alone and let the fish SETTLE. i also added a new thermometer which is saltwater safe. it is connected with magnets. maybe the magnets are harmful? the inside magnet for inside the tank is covered with plastic but the plastic has a small dent in it. i hope the magnet doesnt get exposed to the saltwater.

ok so my parameters are perfect.

ph:8.0 (lights off)

ammonia: 0

nitrite: o

nitrate: unknown - but it should be low because i just got a new filter pad on saturday. even though i did re aquascape/ disturb sand bed, and water looks cloudy.

also... is it good to disturb sand bed when changing water? because i was told disturbing it releases bad toxins and when u remove the water u remove the toxins with it and then you put in ur new water.

the sg tested with my hydrometer is 1.022. i add 3 gravity's to it because my hydrometer is inaccurate and when i tested my water with a sg of 1.022 from my hydrometer, it was 1.025 on a refractometer. so i always add 3. my sg is then between 1.025 - 1.026. i DID NOT top off anything yet because i dont see the water being evaporated, especially since i dont have a water level marked cause it's filled up all the way and u really cant tell if it has evaporated or not. ( i should mark a line)

so my fish i guess r just stressed out due to re scapeing and probably fast water changes and shocks... i will do everything slowly from now on. when i added my new tank water when changing the water, i added it pretty fast.
