Since I'm new to this hobby I have a question on when to add more fish. My 75 gallon tank cycled successfully and within the past two week I added two small stripped damsels and two clown fish. Everyone is getting along and they all are eating great. My water levels are checking out fine too. When do you suggest adding a new fish and what kind? I would like to get a yellow tang but is it to early?

How old is this tank? how long did it cycle?
The damsels can be aggressive!, what are they?

The tank has been fully running for two weeks. I bought all my live rock at a local fish store. I was told since the live rock is fully "cured" my tank was basically cycled. The ammonia and nitrite never spiked. Only my nitrate rose to 40ppm. Since i was told by the lfs that I can add beginner fish, they recommended two damsels. They have 4 black strips on them but I don't know thier name. To be honest I don't even like them because they are too aggressive. On another topic, once I start adding fish stock that I prefer, how do I get rid of the annoying damsels? lol

Yea I would say try to catch the damsels because they can ruin your tank in the future because they become very aggressive. As for adding a yellow tang try waiting a couple more weeks since you just added 4 fish you don't want to spike the ammonia level. Let it balance out for a couple of weeks then you can get a yellow tang because they are very hardy. Also pleeeeaaaassseee take my advice and quarantine all your new fish with copper medicine. I started my first tank on November 5th 2010 and I didn't even know about quarantining and now I had to destroy my tank to catch the fish because the tank got ich which is a parasite so now I have to keep my tank fish less for 3 months just because I didn't treat the fish with copper for a couple of days before I put them in. Good luck!!

Get rid of the damsels now. One way is to make sure there in front of the rock then quickly drain all the water into a storage bin so they can't hide in any caves or just make a fish trapmout of a soda bottle. You can find YouTube videos on how to do that. I also deoxygenated my tank to get out some fish but I heard that wasn't recommended . I don't know why but it is definitely the easiest way. Just turn up the temp and turn off all pumps and filters the the water is completely still and then after a couple of hours. It could be long since it's a big tank, this fish will basically faint. Just make sure your there so the other one don't die. It has to be quick because the faint then they die if it takes to long.cthen get them out and turn the temp down and all the pumps on again and they will come back to life.

Sounds like '4 stripe damsels', move the rock and catch them, return to LFS

Yea no one really told me about it it was just from personal mistakes. Like one day on my bothers tank that I also take care of, the circuit breakr blew and I went to check on it and all the fish were just laying on the sand just moving there fish and they couldn't swim no matter how much I pushed them. So I fixed the problem that blew the circuit breaker and turned on an air pump and within 10 minutes they were fully alive again being their normal selves. So as in was saying before if you turn off everything in the tank you should be able to knock them out to catch them.

This by far the WORST suggestion I have ever read on MR.
The fish aren't 'fainting' they are SUFFOCATING to death from lack of oxygen.
Lack of oxygen to the brain DOES have consequences.

Aside from the incredible peril you are putting your fish in, I have to wonder how many of the pods and other critters died during this act.
