Me? I just started august 5th and prior to that I only had fresh water... I read a lot and upgraded quick made tons of purchased and tons died I lost thousands of dollars now I’m learning to keep my stable

Hey what’s up guys my name is Bryan, I started off with an African cichlid aquarium 7 months ago and every time I walked into my local pet store the salt water section always caught my eye and last month I finally took a step forward to start my own reef tank my buddy Navin helped me out a ton threw out the process of setting up.

How you doing guys. Real new to the forum and I got about six months in the hobby. I started off getting stuck with a small beta fish for my little sister and one day I walked into petco to pick up a bigger tank for my beta that had become an adult fish by then. And well. I ended up walking out with a 30g and my whole saltwater set up with my first Nemo fish. And let me tell you. A lot of hours and pain and money lol I’ve devote myself into the hobby, I was going throught a hard time physically and mentally. Corona just had started and unfortunately I was one of the essential workers who caught it and had to quit my job and quarantine myself in my household.. hopefully it didn’t last too long and I got myself up on my feet in no time. It was my daughter birthday so I her seen Nemo @ the store didn’t help smh. 250$ later that night I found myself setting up my first 30g gallon reef tank.
Now I started and still doing all the reading and watching all the videos I can get my hands on. I love this hobby so much that I then decided 30g couldn’t ever give me the window to the ocean I needed. Pluss is way more harder to keep your water measurement properly good. So after long fights with the wife about spending too much time in my fish room. I decided to upgrade and move my tank back to my bedroom. She complain about how much money one would spend for the set up that I was looking @. Of course a Red Sea tank isn’t cheap! Am I right guys?! Lol but to me it seem that would be the best bet for me. See I’ve recently discovered something. One day my wife asked me why am I always staring into that tank and those fishes. WhT is it so amazing about them ? I would spend hours. And if I could days in my fish room lol just like every mechanic you always find something to upgrade or change. But my answer to her was i didn’t know to be honest. I just loved watching them interact with each other. She said “ Mhmmmm.. I believe what you love about your tank is that is a reef tank and not only that is a peaceful reef tank. What you love to look @ for hours. Isn’t the fish. It’s the peace “ and she couldn’t have been more rightttttt! I suffer from ptsd and bi poler depression and I didn’t realize ever since I started this journey this had become my new outlet to relax and put my mind @ peace. Specially with everything going on right now in the world & our personal life’s. it is important to have a window of peace available to you. And so I started building my project on what I called. My dream tank.
I bought the tank for 50$
Got an entertainment center from Craigslist for free
Did some modifications to make sure the tank water don’t crash it lol that was another 30$
Upgraded my bio cube skimmer to a coral life 125g cost me 50$ another 50$ for a 110 aqua clear
Spend 20$ for some media
And another 60$ for the sump and the pvc pipes and over flow boy PF300 and boom ! Got myself an upgrade still in process to make it better everyday tho.

Thanks brody. And tbh you just gotta look hard, I was lucky enough to catch a break and found someone who was getting rid off his old stuff. Craigslist and Facebook are my bestfriends when finding the good deals
