no offense taken,
but dont most people buy tanks all together? and i would think that most people would not know how to take apart a tank, the right way, without causing damage to the tank itself---
i know a pet store that is stocking, or going to be stocking a hugh tank that will be put together in the guys basement, and even he, the store owner, doesnt know how to build a tank in someones basement
no harm in asking questions, cause if the price is right, why wouldnt someone what to take this on

It would be an honor to have this tank in my house. Are there any pictures floating around. I'd have to hire a tank builder to take it apart and put it back together.

anyone have an idea of what a fair offering price would be, taking into the fact that who ever gets this tank will also be paying to have it taken apart, transported and rebuilt

a new 485 gallon tank from glasscages made with just 3/4" glass is $2400

I'm sure the tank originally cost more than that to build. To figure out a fair price I would call a glass supplier and see what 1" thick glass sells for in 10' lengths.

wasnt the tank built in the 90's, so its gotta be at least 8-10 years old, would'nt ya think?
its not like its a brand new tank, only a few years old

seeing that you have to take the tank apart it does not matter how old it is, if the glass is in good shape. the glass is what you need to price out to come up with a fair price.

The way I would price it out is to first find out how much it's going to cost to take it apart, transport, then put it back together. That price alone may cost more then having a new one built. But keep in mind if you have a new one made you still need to transport it (I suggest using professional riggers).

With this in mind I'm going to assume that there isn't going to be much of a price difference when it's all done, but one your getting a new tank the other one is a legendary tank. If you're thinking of buying it to save money or get a deal I don't think you're being realistic with the expense. The only way you may get a "deal" is if you could get it out in one piece.
