This begs the question how picky are clams about food?? Is it just a matter of sticking a piece of squid or something down the pipe once a day? Or are they temperamental? (Can clams be temperamental?)

Whoa, someone gots some reading to do before purchasing a clam!

Clams are filter feeders, feeding on phytoplankton mainly, but also zooplankton(rotifiers) and some say detritus as a direct P04 absorption. MH keeps these guys best, otherwise your gonna have to give it the caloric intake it needs a day in feedings which is a PITA, since phyto contains decent amounts of PO4 that will accumulate(HA and more WC's to get it out)
Many reefers say small ones need phyto but Ive found it unnecessary, I got my ORA clam 2-3mths at 2 inches and hes been under MH and hes grown to 3 inches now. If you want to spoil the lil guy theres no harm there, but unless hes gaping or "sneezing" alot i dont see the need for the extra TLC

it's not hard to feed them take them out in a cup of water pour some phyto in the cup, leave it for few mins and put the water and clam back into the tank after the water is clear again

Im thinkin I want one too but I need the process of selection explained thoroughly, is it gonna be a crazy mad dash, or pick a number out of a hat and take a pick.Either way I feel like ill go psycho :banghead:
