It's very white, probably the whitest sand you can get. You do need to place LR down on it and cut down on the water movement as it's has a lot of very fine particles which will make your tank cloudy. In time the particles will settle and bind together.
Has anyone located another supplier of this? Not Southdown inparticular but the sand component. I believe this is oolitic sand from the Bahamas Ocean Cay sand mining facility.
I used to beach there and have beach parties when I crewed dive boats.
The energy industry uses ship fills of this stuff in powerplants. Must be around somewhere in industrial suppliers. And pretty cheap by the aquarium full.
I have gone searching for it myself armed with a bottle of distilled vinegar and came up empty. Anyone who can source this would make plenty of friends.
Man, the good old home depot sand. That stuff was so great, I believe it was 4 or 5 bucks a bag and really nice. I had that in my first tank. I kinda want it.... couldnt hurt. PM me if still available.
