I have a ten month old blueline hd 40-x for sale or trade. it's been used first as a closed loop, and is now my return pump.

It's a super quiet pump and is in perfect condition.

the specs
Model 40 HD-X
Max Head 13' MAX HEAD
Flow 1270 gph @ 0'
In 1" MPT
Out 1" MPT
Watts 130 WATTS
Pressure Rated No
Drive Magnetic

link

I would like to trade for a tunze 6080, or a 6060 with a magnet kit.
Or a decent O3 generator.
otherwise I will sell it for $130.00

sure Frank that's perfect.
I'm using daves 6080 now, so I'm good for the moment.
Maybe when we hook up for the O3 reactor I can bring the pump then.

Paul,

I had a quietone 6000 as a CL, I'm using Dave's 6080 tunze right now, so I took the blueline off line. I now have a 6060 and a 6080 for flow, and the quietone is back in my sump for the return.

my future plans include looking for a pump that is less than the 140 watts of the quietone. and I'm thinking of putting the tunzes on oscilating motors aka "tunze rats" from reefvan on RC.

other than the red dragon pumps there are not too many energy efficient pumps out there. I wish making a reef tank as energy efficient as possible was not so expensive. oh well.

sorry which plans? for the new tank i want to make?

Do you have a link for the tunze rats?

You should think about the bl1100. So far so good for my bl800 but I have it on a close loop with the sump right now. I'm filling up my main tank again now so I will now how the flow turns out tomorrow hopefully.

Yeah I was wondering about your future tank.

tunze rat

there is no direct link on that page for the tuunzerat, but go to the home page, I think there is something there about it. also search on RC's DIY section under tunze rat / reefvan you'll find his threads.

I like the BL1000's 70 watts, that will most likely be the next pump I buy, unless I get the funds for the red dragon, :D

my new tank idea is still on paper, I will not be setting it up anytime soon.

I wanted to design the most energy efficient sps reef tank possible, using equipment that is affordable, lol. there are no new ideas, just a different way of thinking. I'll try to get something together to post soon.

how noisy is the BL1100?

thanks.

the BL40X is so quiet I can't hear it running in the stand, the hood fans are louder than it.

Yeah, I can't search on RC now because I'm not a premium member, lol. That's why I was asking.

Most energy efficient sps tank...no sump. Have the overflow go to another tank at the same level or a closed area in the tank and the recirculating skimmer dumping the water back directly in the tank. Then use vortex pump (not streams because they add heat) and t5's not in the hood. Not only would it be energy efficient (low temp also), it would very simple and no worries about floods. Get a drop in chiller (not sure how you would make this look nice) instead of inline and your good to go.

I can't vouch for the bl1100 but I think the Bl800 and Bl1100 use the same housing and the bl800 is pretty quiet. Its not t4 quiet but its good. I'm really really really into quiet since my tank is in my bedroom but its a welcome trade off (bl800 for t4) so I can have less electricity and less heat (as long as it performs in a few days when I plumb it to my display). Knowing I'm going from 140W 24/7 to 40W 24/7 is sooo sweet. Right now I have some vibrations going into the sump that I have to deal with but the fan itself sounds like a computer fan.

I'll have to check out the tunze heat, when I have a chance I'll place it in a bucket of water and monitor the temps. I've done this with other pumps, by starting with cool water you get an idea how much if any heat a pump is putting into the water.

but just by feeling the tunzes they have always felt cool to me, that's why I thought they did not palce any heat into the tank.

that's not bad.

where are the vibrations coming from? the pump?
Yeah that is another thing. The t4 has no noticeable vibration but the bl's do. The vibrations are being coupled thru the tubing to the sump. Some could also be going thru the plywood that the pump and sump are sitting on but I put padding under the pump. So I'm going to put some foam under the corner of the sump, which I hope won't put too much stress on the it. I guess I could hang the pump and use those rubber plumbing connectors to go from the pump to piping but I haven't decided yet.

when you say place foam under the corner of the sump, I'm not sure what you mean. if anything is placed under the sump it should be the entire footprint.

I think a clear hose coupler will solve the vibration coming from the pump.
ronen showed us this at nycmatt's house this weekend. clear tubing coming from the pump and connecting to the rigid pvc with hose connectors and clamps will stop any vibrations from traveling along the return line.
