some times when the tip of an acro looses tissue algae starts to form in very thin sheets at first and i think that its like a treat to them i don't have any data to back this up just my observation with my powder brown tang that was doing the same thing

This is what I think it is. You'd be surprised how quickly algae grows.

with good water parameters the acro should heal itself otherwise throw it in the sump like i did with so many of mine its funny how two corals of the same species can have such dramatic differences in a tank i have 2 bird nests and one is hardly growing and one is outgrowing the other one 3to1 and they are maybe 5 inches apart
