The 1.5 polyp frag I got from Sanjay turned into 18 adult polyps with a dozen new buds forming in 10 months.
Care to share 1? :)

What? A polyp or a picture?

At a certain point it seems the coral limits its own growth by shading the underside. They're considering chopping it in half/quarters to get it bigger. You run into this issue yet?

Here it is this past December, after fragging it. The frag is on the right.

Here's where the frag was cut. A new polyp appers in less than a week.

Here's the 3 polyp frag

Interesting you're getting the bubble shaped tentacle tips too.

Originally, the polyps were bubble shaped, as you can see in the March 06 picture. Then I kept it under 2 96 watt pc lights for 10 months, and fed it very well. Slowly, the polyps got longer. The last picture of the 3 polyp frag was taken an hour after the frag was placed in that cup, so the polyps are retracted, and look thicker. But they are now long again.

Hey Larry,
Yes, they are now shipping corals, and some Duncs are coming in. Roes seems to have the market cornered on them. I saw some nice colonies recently in a Canadian LFS. They also just got some Aussie Acan lords in. Very nice corals.

As for how long it will last, don't know. Hopefully long enough to get some cool corals here.

How long do you think these new Duncans that have started showing up will last on the market? Is Australia really loosening up that much that we will start seeing more and more corals coming out of that region?

These could easily be captively propagated in numbers. I don't know if it'd be enough to meet the demand, but they grow very very fast. I think our colony is up to 32 polyps or so, and it'd be much more if we were trimming and fragging it.

I got a small one head piece from liveaquaria. In about 2 months, there's 5 heads sprouting out already. And I don't even feed mine. These things are gorgeous if not weeds 8)

Liveaquaria carries these? :? How much did you pay for yours, Len? I can't get a frag from anyone, it seems like. The lack of "LE" pieces in my tank makes things even more difficult (for trading). :(

LE has them in their Diver's Den section. It's in one of their captive bred sections. They have single head ones for about $70 and multihead ones for much more. Pricey little suckers :)

The talk here in Australia is the new quota system allows corals to be exported, previously all coral exports were prohibited. I don't really know the ins and outs of it but its causing a little consternation amongst Aussie reefers. We've used to paying A$25 - A$40 for a colony of Duncanopsamia and the fear is that we may now have to compete with the U.S market driving up prices considerably, and not just for this species but across the board.

Lucky for you very few items are on the export list, and they typically look worse for the wear when they arrive :D They're not being sold for an arm and a leg either, so I think your market will be fine :D
