It's up and running!

So here is the finished sump and the plumbing I put together for it. The drain is split to the sump and the fuge w flow controlled by ball valves. I split the return so that I can do water changes by shutting down the tank, flip 2 ball valves, turn the pump on and fill a 5 gallon bucket with little to no mess. What isn't shown in the picture is the egg crate shelf I made to lift the skimmer up. Works out perfectly as the skimmer sits in 7.5" water which is right where it should be.

This is the rockwork I came up and I'm fairly happy with it. I know it will likely change as I add some established rock to seed this tank. This is 80 lbs of Caribsea "Primo" Reef rock.

As it sits this morning. I spent about 30 minutes rinsing the gravel before putting it in the tank and it made a real difference in how long it took the tank to clear. This is less than 24 hours since it was filled and started...
Ignore the light as it's on it's way out. I just bought a nice used TEK 6 bulb for it. Hope to add an actinic Reefbrite to it in a few weeks..

I believe u should of used a y instead of that T. looking good though. Also with the aquascape wouldnt you want that rock more or so leaning towards the back glass for better real estate for corals. (If you get what im saying) But you gotta like it thats all that matters.

Tony I went to 2 Lowes and 2 HD's and NONE of them had any Y's in stock. I know the T may hurt a little but it seems to be running smooth and quiet so we'll see how it goes. It's hard to tell from the picture but the rocks do slane back towards the back top of the tank. If I get a chane to take a shot when I get home I can show you what I mean. Lots of shelfs and outcroppings.

Thanks Tony. I thought I might need to order them but wasn't going to wait for them to come in over the holiday. Should have seen the wife when I was sizing, cutting and gluing PVC pipe at 1am in the morning on Christmas eve :argue: The diamond earrings the following morning changed her to this

Update:

So I have started cycling with 10 lbs of live rock added to the dry rock I started with. Threw in 3 small fresh shrimp in the fuge and now the wait begins. While I was at it I ordered a ReefFanatic ATO and Airlifter pump from BRS. No more leaving the RO on by mistake or crashing salinity levels. I picked up this cool little container from my local ACE hardware for the Top Off water. Holds about 4 gallons. Best thing was the $4.99 price :thrash:

I also picked up a Pure Flo auto shut off for use in the TO and went about getting that installed.

The container and the soon to arrive Airlfter both needed something to sit on so I threw together these two shelves. Right now the coat of epoxy resin I applied to them is drying. Some paint in the morning and they should be ready to go when the setup gets here. And the tank as of a little while ago before lights out...

I have had multiple types of shutoff valves fail on me. And I live in an apartment so that was not pretty. I bought a leak detector from bulk reef supply and it saved me once already. If overflow of rodi water would be an issue for you, maybe you should consider it
