Great thread, Looks fantastick. I got questions.

how did you attach your pumps to the true union ball valves?

What size spa flex are you using?

Hey Matt! Well I attached my pumps to the true unions ball valves with 2" threaded nipples on the intake side and 1 1/2 threaded nipples on the output side. Spaflex coming out of the pumps is 1" and 3/4" going into my 2 seaswirls.

When you put the threaded nipple on the pump, did it thread onto the pump, or did it slip over that end and thread onto the union. I assume that the spaflex was a slip on coupling on the spaflex side.

Great looking tank. I like the fact that its not overcrowded. At some point I would like to set up a large tank and stock it mostly with smaller fish as well. What advantages/disadvantages did you find using the spa flex over rigid pvc ( besides cost, flexibility ) ?

I love SpaFlex. I would never use anything else ever again. I went from vinyl tubing right to flexible PVC. I don't really know of any disadvantages besides cost. I figured the price per foot of flexible is probably going to be more than rigid pvc. But if you think of it... all the 45 and 90 degree angles that you will need to make the necessary twist and turns will most likely bring the price right back up. I think flexible PVC is more forgiving. If you cut a bit too short or too long you have a little more room for error.

Great pics!

could you please tell me what fish is that in the pic below. Looks like an eel, but it has fins. :scratchch

Awilda, I have 3 of these and love them. Pholidichys leucotaenia are very social with eachother, but a little shy of people. They are actually neither blennies or gobies but exist as the only type of fish in their own separate category. When you buy them as babies, they have one horizontal stripe. As they mature, the stripes switch direction. Beware that many sources say they only grow to about 5". Mine are about 8-10" and still growing.....

Is the Spaflex as safe as rigid PVD when joining to other parts ? I see you have two pumps - one is connected to the sump, whats the other ?

Hey jejton. I believe that spaflex has the same qualities as rigid PVC. One pump my main circulation and the other one powers my becket skimmer.

Sorry Matt! I just caught your post now! The pumps are female threaded so you will need threaded nipples to screw in on the input as well as output. SpaFlex has to be cemented into an appropriate adapter for your particular application so you will need slip / threaded PVC parts.
