Tom your tank looks amazing !
everything looks healthy and happy :)

Thank you! I really appreciate this. Just like everyone else, I've gone through some ups/downs with it. The iphone camera is okay but everything obviously looks much better in person.

I noticed that one birdsnest SPS coral I posted up, (not sure of the exact type) seems to be bleaching towards the base, the polyps were opening up all over the entire piece when I first got it. I checked my alk last night with my new hanna alk checker and it was 116. I multiplied that by .056 and got 6.5. That's really low. I did a water change Thursday but it was only 5 gallons. I'm going to have to do another ASAP. will test again tonight though to make sure.

So I know this is something little for many of you, but had some time to compare pictures of some things in my tank. My monti is the only thing I notice growth on right now. Although the green monti browned (I don't know why) everything shows growth.
Again, a little improvement but in the right direction

What would cause it to brown? At least it's not bleaching :)

Nvm I figured it out. Just ran it through the reactor till its clean tumbling nice. The mj600 is a little noisy when dialed down. It was fine before because I had the valve open because it took a little more flow for the media to tumble. This media is finer grain so it doesn't take as much flow. Ill have to deal I guess. Testing phosphates tomorrow.

I'm starting to get more detritus build up in my sump only in the fuge section where I have some LR, Chaeto & Dragons breath algae. I am not using a filter sock (too much maintenance and no room to hang it) but this is the draw back. Is there an easier method besides taking everything out of the fuge section of my sump sucking all the water out/detritus out with the bucket head then putting it back in and filling fresh sw ?

Looking for something less time consuming, but this is what I've been doing in the process. I don't want to affect the pod population in the fuge area by doing this.

Think you answered your own question...filter socks are the tradeoff between small maintenance more often or large maintenance not as often. If you had room which it sounds like you don't you could use a settling tank like MikeC.

yeah i don't have much room. I am going to re-organize all the wiring between this weekend and next weekend so maybe I can move some things around somehow to fit the sock back in. This may be the best bet. I just hate cleaning the socks all time lol :banghead:
