The nigers beeing going into the cleaners fishwash every once and a while for a good scrub =0) I'm more worried about the cleaner getting too close to the BTA/maroon and the maroon ninja dropkicking him in the head.

Haven't had any problems except with the Flashers. Blue sided flasher was bullied into the back of the rockwork :(. Other than that everything gets along.

I think fish/invert/coral compatibility is more of a mix between 1. watching the fish's personality while also checking his health and feeding patterns before you buy, and 2. maintaining proper feeding habits where the fish is more interested in the food you introduce rather than picking on helpless inverts. 3. Getting lucky with certain species mixes like the whole angel dabocal. Also getting smaller fish also helps. Larger ones are more dominant. I'm sure if i introduced a 6+ inch niger into the tank it would ravage everything including my fingers while i feed.

The sand is ESV super white calc carb sand. Its nice stuff but you run into the whole white car syndrom. Even the smallest amount of snail poop makes it look dirty.

Hood Update!

Just finished and installed my hood yesterday. I have no build pics but its just a box w/ a L shaped door hanging on a piano hinge. i hate piano hinges but i would have had to special order hinges that go 180 degrees and i didn't want to wait that long. I'm going to have to get myself a new pair of ...

soon.

Sorry beforehand for the crappy pics and don't mind the mess.

My router attacked me when I made my first slot for the vent so i was stuck making them bigger to even them out.

Water based laquer finish, on the inside its coated with white high heat paint. I also added 2x T5 TEK retro's to the lighting with geismann pure actinic bulbs and i'm loving it. That little bit of actinic really helps certain coral highlight the right way. Also been running the T5's for a week and have noticed my SPS begin to highlight different colors than before.

3x 90mm PC fans are running whenever the lights are on. Before the hood i had my ceiling fan running and the air conditioner set at 71 in the adjacent room and my temp would fluctuate from 76.5 to about 80-81 degrees during the day. So far with the air conditioner off it went up .5 of a degree in about 4 hours. I'm guessing a 2 degree max by the time my lights are off which is alot better than the 4-5 degree fluctuation i would get during the day. I'm planning on deflecting some air intake from 1-2 vents towards the water soon which should maintain my temp almost perfect. I fill up my tank about 3-6 liters of water a day.

I also added 1/2" chicken wire on the vents and the PC fans on the inside to prevent Fish flopping out or turning into sushi in my fans.

I found the camera that had my tank build pics so i'll have them up later on tonight once it finishes charging.

Next upgrade:

-Custom electrical switch box (of if i can find one premade thats of good quality)
-ATO
-Auto doser

Nice. I can't see but is there something to stop the hood from slipping off the top of the tank?

I like the vents. Well done. But I would put some louvers inside to block some of the light from escaping.

Thats the plan soon with adding the louvres to the inside.

I also have to add a piece to the front lip also to keep some light from escaping where the door is.

As for the inside i didn't have the time this past week to add a lower lip on the inside to keep it from moving back and forth so i was stuck siliconing some wood stopper blocks for the time beeing till i find some free time. I was stuck using 1/2 material and i couldn't rout out the clearance for the nub on the upper lip of the top frame of the tank. Woulda been very weak at that point + water damage = no good.

I have to rout out and install a piece of wood around the inside so it sits up against the lip i made on the top frame of the tank. Bad planning and lack of time are a killer with finishing the final touches.

T, sweet setup my friend. The hood looks great. I agree with both Brett and your assessment of louvers and block for the door. That'll iron out some minor details. Otherwise, looks great.

I got scared of this guy once i seen his teeth. Thought "Oh, what a cool cute urchin! OMG MY FINGER!" He's been sitting in the corners of my tank chewing on my silicone which is worrying me. I see bite marks and shaving marks.

Just above the Zoa's is this colony of Micro blasto type coral w/ ice blue centers. Really cool. And to the right side, the Yellow thing is also a new interesting coral (psammacora me thinks)
