I feel a bit guilty - going through a bit of a splurge at the moment

Ive noticed you lucky dog! Some really nice stuff you got there, that acan is HOT!

Thanks! Do you mean the latest one I've just ordered? I'm being a bit careful not to get too excited about it. It looks pretty pink in that picture, but I know he has his corals under high-powered actinics so it'll look different in my tank. Plus there's always a chance it's just a bleached looking red, rather than a real pink. Let's wait and see...

Whichever way it'll be a nice coral for the tank. Plus it only cost the equivalent of $15.

A couple of shots to keep you going until Sunday.

Something that I saw when the rock first arrived, but only intermittently since then. Is this a serpent star? Should I worry at some point? Could it end up eating fish?

And here's a not particularly good one of some of the frags my friend passed to me a couple of nights ago.

that does look like a serpent star to me, and their temperaments are unpredictable...

Thanks Tracy. It's certainly too small to catch any fish at the moment (the sand bed is sugar sand to give an idea of scale, the single zoa frag it's climbing tiny), but I'll keep an eye on it as it grows.

OK, so here are the latest additions.

The polyps of this E.divisa are a lot chubbier than they looked in the pictures. Not sure why - brighter lighting in my tank?

[rimg]http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/ab238/TheEscapedApe/Long%20awaited/P1010699.jpg[/rimg]

My red chalice. The stripes are kind of very pale blue, but it's not that clear in these pics.

[rimg]http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/ab238/TheEscapedApe/Long%20awaited/P1010697.jpg[/rimg]

The Lobophyllia (once I saw it, it was obvious Ben was right about the species ID). A lot redder than in the picture (no sign of the purple tinge it had in the pic from the website), but still very attractive. Looking forward to seeing what it looks like under actinics.

[rimg]http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/ab238/TheEscapedApe/Long%20awaited/P1010694.jpg[/rimg]

And finally the little, slightly damaged pink Acan. The pink isn't overly bright, but it looks definitely pink rather than bleached red to my eyes initially. Let's see how it develops.

Thank you! There don't appear to be as spectacular chalices over here for the most part - this is probably the nicest I've seen since we got back - but at least it's perfectly affordable to buy a whole one (this one cost me $30), rather than having to pay the moon for a single eye frag. :D

Absolutely! I will never buy single eyes frags of anything again, makes survival too iffy :?

Talking of iffy survival, the Lobo's middle polyp shrank really badly this afternoon (to the point where you could see old skeleton (not new skeleton thankfully) that hadn't been obvious when it arrived). It readily took some mysis later when I fed it and the new Acan and it's looking a little better expanded now, but I'm really hoping this doesn't indicate anything more serious. :?

I remember my first echinophyllia. 8" diameter, bought at an LFS for $25. Hard to remember there was a time they were considered a 'filler' coral that was occasionally included in orders even though no one wanted them.

Speaking of which, I bought this guy for my last tank about 6-7 years ago. A pretty striking green, but pretty monotone. You might remember it - a while back I was looking back at the coral from my old tank and trying to check which coral it was - you were the guy that confirmed it for me. They still sell these bright green Echinophyllias even now and as cheap as they ever were over here.

Nice tank

Thanks for making the effort. Now get back down there before the light blinds you. :P

The wife will never let me have another fish tank or reef tank because I sold the last one with my house. Her answer is always, "Oh, no you don't, we have already been through all that"

I know I'm pretty lucky - my wife's been very supportive. Though she hasn't been too keen on how much more this has cost than planned because of the weak pound.

Tom, you have certainly given me the itch again...and of course the "NO BUY" period has started for me(because getting gifts for me is so difficult, I'm not allowed to purchase anything for myself from Sept. to December as both my birthday and X-mas occur in that time period)

regardless, I'm actively trying to sell that 165 gallon tank(wont fit in the house), and since I already had that, the money I get from it is allowable for a smaller tank purchase, which incidently will prolly be in the 65 gallon range...and I still have all my light sets(175 mh, 2x100 mh, 2x250 mh, 400 mh, plus several n.o. and vho sets, and a couple PCs) a repairable insump Berlin skimmer(not mention a Seachem and CPR bakpak)...come to think of it, I think I still have all my Magdrives as well(2.5, 5, 8, and 12, iirc)...

add to all this, there is a new LFS that opened near me, that has a huge coral frag selection thats for the most part, reasonably priced(Acans are over the top pricey of coourse) all laid out in a top down view (4 large troughs 6' x3').
cant wait cant wait cant wait cant wait!
