Considering you don't have a Calcium test kit yet, you definitely shouldn't be dosing that.
Nor, as Phil points out, do you need to dose because there isn't anything in your tank that is using up the alk & Ca.

Ok guys, so today i added some more live rock which was full of surprises. A couple peppermint shrimp jumped out of one of the rocks, which is full of coralline. Also, one of the rocks had GSP encrusted and some other coral, which i believe is a bad anemone.
Onto the pics!!

The hose is for the phosban...

How do i get rid of the aptasia???

Can you try & hide the hose in the corner? Also would be a good idea to put a strainer of some sort over the end of it so nothing wanders in there. I'll try to rememeber to pop something in the box I'm sending that you can use.

sigh..first off it is Aiptasia..lol..that will help you with the 'second off'..which is do some homework!
1- Do a 'search' on here, there must be well over 100 threads asking the same question. At the top of the home page on the left side is a search box...try it :)
2- Read the book!

Since your thread would be a great 'read' for any newbie to learn lots from..how about you become the teacher here and tell US how you shold take care of the Aiptasia? :)

After i posted that, i did the search, too late haha
And i saw that there are a variety of ways to get rid of it. One of them is to inject a high concentration of kalkwasser mixed with the water into the Aptasia. The second one is to "bleach" the rock, but then it becomes base rock. Another one was burning it, but not sure if that's true or not, because i'm guessing that if you take the rock out, the aptasia will shrink...
Now my question is, could you cut it? I read that you could also scrape it off, but all that does is make it worst.

Ah my young jedi, you have much to learn..bleaching the rock is a little severe, or we'd all have empty tanks part of the year..burning it?? where the heck did you find that one? lol...scraping doesn't work as you have learned (go you!!)...there are much easier ways..search a little more please! :)

Peppermint Shrimp work (i know at least one came with the rock, saw it with my own eyes) but i also read that Peppermint shrimp tend to eat mushrooms and zoas also. Marrone suggested taking a pair of tweezers and removing it that way. Another member in here was using a butterflyfish (if i'm not mistaken) and he ate all the aptasia.

If you're going to remove them by using a tweezers you need to remove the rock from the tank. After removing them you should rinse the rock off to make any left over parts don't get put back into the tank. Also you really want to dig them out of the rock and not just pull them out.

As soon as you posted that, i just came back from trying to remove it, but the rock was inside the tank, so the aptasia went right in. I think i will leave it for a couple days and see if the peppermint does anything to it. I really don't want to take the rocks out because i like how it looks now, and i'm afraid that if i take them out, it won't look the same.

The longer you leave it in there - the more chance it will have to multiply.

Go get the syringe out of one of your Salifert test test and rinse the HECK out of it. Go ask Mom for the white vinegar (not a kind with any flavoring!)..and fill the syringe half way up.

When the Aiptasis is open STICK it DIRECTLY into it's mouth (dead center) and squeeze.

Again, rinse the heck out of the syringe again & put it away.

If he reappears again tomorrow try it one more time, if it doesn't work then, there is always a plan B. :)

lol you're not in Spain :) Dont you color Easter Eggs? Every time I use vinegar to clean my power heads, I either crave a salad or want to color hard boiled eggs...Also handy for washing windows...you're funny Oriol.

Don't know if anyone mentioned but try not to feed your tank inhabitants too much so that the peppermints can feed what they leave behind this way they will be hungry and eat the aiptasia.
With the cyano Vacuum as much as possible and then treat.

Hide the phosban tube... You got me ..I'm stumped?

Hide the phosban tube... You got me ..I'm stumped?

That was just cause I didn't like it hanging there in the middle of the tank. lol
Still have to convince him it's ok to use the heater horizontally behind the rockwork..darned newbie :)

Ok Oriol, I know I skipped this when you asked..when did the micro bubble start and where are they coming from? Can you see them coming from one of the power heads or the skimmer? or where?
(sumpless tank for anyone else whop is reading along)
