A deep sand bed is the trick. I also kept them in a smaller tank by themselves for several months until they were eating aggressively before their current home. 8" sand bed minimum IMO.

I have had most of my garden eels for at least a year and a half. They eat mostly mysis but I sometimes feed them chopped up cocktail shrimp and squid. This tank also has a super booming population of pods because of all of the macroalgae. I suspect they eat them as well when the pods are in the water column. I also feed a crap load of mysis shrimp twice a day. That wont fly in a reef tank.

If I put an 8" sand bed in your 120 there will only be 10" of display height :irked:

Dom, got any advice on keeping tropical macro in check? My cube has carribean macro that grows so freakin fast.

Lower your nutrient level I have trouble growing macro with 0.02 phosphates..

It depends on what type of macro. I haven't found anything to work with caulerpa except pulling it out of the tank manually. Seahares (depends what kind) seem to eat Gracilaria, Tenera, chaeto and ulva IME. What kind do you have?

My white spotted pygmy filefish eggs hatched today. The fry are so tiny I can not get a pic of them. Here is a lame attempt to get a close up of the eggs:

There is a new batch of eggs today. They were laid in a tough spot to get pics.

I took some eggs (hatched during the drive) to a local aquarium (Atlantis Marine World) to see what they thought. They are going to try but didn't seem very optimistic about raising the fry because of their size. I have about 500 fry right now from batch 2. I also ordered equipment to better log my efforts with pictures.

Another surprise today was a third batch of eggs. I do need to find a good food source for these fish!
