That seems like a bad idea to me, only b/c you are putting that much more stress on the return. Why not just get a new return pump that fits your requirements?

Also, if I am correct, it has been 14 days since you added rocks/sand to the tank?

If this is true, I suggest you be very careful, as I think you have added live stock to quickly, and to much....It is a very delicate system, and you just completely changed the elements to the system drastically and all at once.

If I am incorrect in the time frame, ignore this...

+1 batt on the stocking issues of the tank. I have my Marineland cut back about 20% from being wide open so far so good( i know only been months) I'd personally rather have a pump slightly bigger than I need and cut it back a hair than to possibly do some math wrong and be shy GPH for the amount of head I have, but all what I was thinking about the stocking too fast. JMO

This is a 55 gal sump/refuge with a MTC skimmer with mag 12 ,
As you can see, I had cutaway a portion of my desk for skimmer. sacrifices !!

The skimmer thru the desk is halarious, I love it. You and the tank are really one!!!
