Quick update,

Phosphates are @ around .10, Have been exhausting my GFO weekly. Every single coral in the tank is THRIVING except for one of my Frogspawns. Its a mystery but he wont open up to its maximum anymore.

Cyano - None, Haven't seen a trace in around 3 weeks.

Diatoms - Very Little Diatoms, i turkey baste the rocks daily so im sure its not giving it a chance to form.

Green Hair Algae - Where isnt it? its really taken off in the past few weeks. its very brittle and can be removed with a tooth brush with no effort. but truthfully im not going to continue brushing it everyday since i'm not sure if that's the reason it has gotten worse.

Aptasia - All of a sudden i have around 10+ in random spots. no clue where i got this from.

Bubble Algae - found a small patch of 3/4, uh!

A lot of my local reefer friends are battling these same problems. We tried to see what we had in common and the only thing is our water. We all live very close in new york -

could it be our water?
could it be from the nutrisea water?
could it be from dry rock ? marco/BRS rock?

myself and my close friend danielle [picod] have been battling the exact same problems for the past month. I get my rodi from her [which is from a brand new system - reading 0tds] and we both used the nutrisea water and both started our tanks with dry rock.

I still have nuisance algae but im just going to keep my head up and fight it. I am definitely heading in the right direction and hopefully within a month or two everything will be back to normal. !

i lowered my lights 3 inches. i felt like they have needed to be lowered for the longest time. Currently in the process of designing a new stand that will allow me to run a large refugium. I've also added Another Mp10, the shallow needed it.

The tank is running near bare bottom. There is probably only about 15% of the original sand left since i started siphoning during my weekly water changes.

Ok so your almost on top of this thing. I went through these issues for while as well. 2 more things you could do that helped me out to finally get this thing under control for good. A uv at a flow rate that will help with algae and dose peroxide at 1ml per volume. Of water this will help with hair algae make sure you have good circulation when doing. Once the algae is under control you can stop dosing and monitor to see if it starts coming back start again. Once my hair algae was gone I stopped dosing and have not started again in over 2 months now.

Jpel, im probably going to hold off on both the uv and h202 dosing for a little while. I really dont know the long term effects and on such a small system its not something im sure i want to do. Especially with all the little critters - fiddlers, porcelain crabs, pom poms. etc.. I have read up on it a lot and pretty confident i will be fine dosing but will hold off a little.

As for the uv, i just really dont want to buy one. i have enough things going on under my sump as it is lol. more money, more wires, ah. ill hold out.

newfi, uh that's horrible to hear, i have read that their Pukani rock leaches phosphates. Im using their BRS ?Reef Saver? Eco Dry Aquarium Live Rock. But again - anything is possible. Probably mined from the same place. Who knows.

jamesonwhiskey, i would love to add mangroves to this setup but i dont have any! want to send me some?

If I only had extras!

liveaquaria usually has them but they are expensive 3 for $30-something last time I checked. reefcleaners.org has them but they are just the propagules so they will take some time to grow and you'll have to float them in styrofoam or with chopsticks as I did, lol. It sounds like they will thrive in your system though!

I got mine from someone on here so check the message boards... he was charging $5 each in december I think. He's local but was happy to ship them to me.

thanks, i will definitely take you up on that offer, removed a lot of the coral to make room for some new sps and still battling some nasty , couple more months and this tank will be lovely.

I actually was able to get ahold of cpr's new nano reactor. cant wait to receive it. photos to follow when it arrives!

nano reactor is great, its a 1st generation prototype so i am sure the final version will be a little better cleaning and replacing media is a little annoying for me.

Here's an updated photo of the tank. It's getting there. I have had a bunch of up and downs but i am finally seeing some positive results and really enjoying the tank.

Everything has grown out of control. if you look at the birds nest in the left tank it has went from a single stick to a mini colony, many things have multiplied and grown which is great.

Im still doing 5gallon weekly water change and running both GFO and CARBON in separate reactors.
Carbon is changed monthy & GFO every 2 weeks. Gladly most if not all nuisance algae is gone but now i am having issues with Aiptasia and bubble algae lol. I am not skimming.

Like i mentioned above, ive had up and downs. I have lost a bunch of fish over the past few months. They include my Smith blenny,Tailspot Blenny, Dusky Blenny, & cardinal. Its been around a month in a half since a fish has died and I am not sure why. Slowly i will be re introducing some new fish in the upcoming weeks.

Some corals aren't open and some are just there for the time being as fillers. I'm doing some heavy shopping in the upcoming weeks so look for photos!
