I dont know what there is to rethink- I had a Turboflotor 1000 ok skimmer on for the first month of my 65, pulled some skimmate but 5 days after upgrading to the Bermuda 3c it was pulling more than the turboflotor ever did, with less of a footprint than the turboflotor now I was actually able to put it in my sump instead of hanging it off the back like I had to. Is only 5"x7" by 23" tall Great skimmer so far and would definately recommend it to anybody looking for a GOOD skimmer. The fit and finish can not be beat. Have only owned one skimmer before this but have looked at a lot of skimmers not many felt as well built and had such perfect fit and trim as the 3c. Just my opinion. I feel mine is worth EVERY penny I spent on it. Good luck with your search- but will tell you I got mine from saltwatercritters- if you wanted to go new that is they can definately get it for you.

Is also EXTREMELY easy to adjust one knob thats all, good to go thing is built like a:tank:

Oh just to add a note dont think Im plugging Russ to get him business- im a straight shooter- he MADE me wait for the Turboflotor to break in before he would let me switch- but the turboflotor never was amounting to anything it claimed to be on their website(Aqua-Medic the comp that makes them) so after I was able to tell I didnt like it still only then did he sell it to me. I wish in ALL honesty I would have met him before I bought the turboflotor becasue I would not have had to upgrade .

i wasnt impressed with the bpc 3 either, didnt run it long term either though, and there is alot of better skimmers for the money then that one, their customer service sux, comparing that skimmer to a turbo float isnt a comparison, also look at the amount of wattage used to drive one of those compared to any needle wheel skimmer, best skimmer out for the money is the vertex, ive owned 15 or so skimmers and out of all of them euroreef, asm, bermuda, etss, dax, and few other the vertex was best built and worked like a xharm, what size tank is it going on and do you need a external or internal skimmer ? in reality id i was going with a down draft style id take the etss sump buddy 40 or 60 over the bermuda, had both and loved them other then the noise of the down draft, the 60 was most powerful skimmer ive had and very little space required

Well as in everyone has their opinion that the best skimmer for the money is always an opinion in my eyes due to personal preferences on controls of adjustments and such and not based on performance alone. That the turboflotor couldnt compare was exactly my point- the turboflotor isnt a sea clone but it isnt a good skimmer (in my opinion). I am just not a fan of someone saying a 3 word reply with NO explanation. Is the 3c TOP OF THE LINE? well people say deltecs are but they cost 600+ dollars so give me an upper middle of the road skimmer for a couple of hundred less anyday. And even some of the people that swear by the deltecs have also agreed with certain things not being 100%and that they had to make slight changes for them to do exactly what they want it too. I dont believe that for 600 dollars or more should buy you a skimmer that you have to put more stuff on or make changes to. So IMO I love the 3C but hey if you dont like it go with your vertex, what do I know anyway- am a newbie with little experience, but will stick with my 3C as I also have not heard any complaints about them until now. Good luck with whatever you buy....Jimmy

but for $400 there are alot better skimmers out there, more efficient and more effective

I cant and wont disagree noob- i read your posts and you have always been a descent person not to steer people wrong but if he wants to try this one isnt a bad skimmer to use a little pricey but that turboflotor I had was 250 so for the price Im happy with it. I dont have a lot of experience with other skimmers but I do with these two so I just gave my opinion and comparison.

He will wind up going with what he wants either way so hopefully hes happy with the decision he makes and enjoys his equipment.:eek:rangehat

Wow - this is a great forum! Tons of good unbiased feedback which is great to hear. Skimmers seem to be a passionate subject. I'm new - in my little time reading I've noticed a strong personal preference amongst reefers. In my book this shows the passion reefers have for their tanks and equipment. All skimmers bring something to the table, no different than going to a dealership to buy a car. No two are the same, each is better at something.

AVI PM'd me and shared his thoughts. He had some great points and I'm glad he did. His reluctance to post was for the same reason i sometimes don't respond - threads can go south quick.

Thanks to everyone for the inputs. I'm really happy I found this forum!

I found a used skimmer and have it running. It started right up and seems to be doing a great job skimming!

Two questions -

1) it is foaming very well, though I would like a bit dryer of a skim, I lowered the level to about 1/4 to 1/2 " above the sticker and it is still wet.

2) what kind of yearly maintenance should I be doing?
