The Birth of Weedy Seadragon


The male weedy seadragon with his precious cargo

The female weedy seadargon (Phyllopteryx taeniolatus) laid close to 100 eggs in June 2012, depositing them on the spongy underside of the male’s tail; As with seahorses, the males carry the eggs to term.  This week, the first eggs began to hatch!
